The Feather – Rockhal Café (Luxembourg) – 22.01.2014
The Feather is the side/solo project of Thomas Medard, singer & guitarist in the Belgian indie-folk band Dan San (which I had the pleasure to see at the same venue in 2012, review here).
I had failed to realise that the album is available to download via Bandcamp (until now, as I was looking for a link to add to this review), so I only knew two or three songs in advance. My plan was to purchase the physical CD after the gig and what I got to hear didn’t give me any reason to change my mind.
The Feather’s sound doesn’t differ that much from Dan San’s except for the fact that it’s even dreamier. And of course, Thomas’ voice is more prominent than on the Dan San songs where he shares the duties of a singer (btw, I recognised at least one member of Dan San supporting Thomas on stage, not sure about the others). As is suitable for a live performance, the songs were played with more energy than the album versions. With some funny stage banter in between, the time passed almost too quickly.
After the gig, CDs were sold & signed and photos taken. Wonder if it’s a Belgian thing to write my name with a „y“ in the end? Because even though I spelled it, Thomas got it wrong – maybe just for the sake of coherence for it’s exactly the same on my signed Dan San CD :D
