September 24, 2021: Queen Letizia held a virtual speech at the presentation of the State Platform for People with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities.

Good morning to all of you who participate in person or from your homes in this Plena Inclusión congress.

First of all, I want to say to you, to people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, that you have been very courageous and exemplary in your efforts to take another step in conquering spaces for decision-making. This State Platform is the example of it. Participating is being visible and that means that each of you now has more opportunities to take control of your lives. The Platform is a great tool that will expand, among other things, cognitive accessibility, which is a right that allows people with comprehension difficulties to access the appropriate information. The Platform, of course, will allow progress on many other issues that concern us all.

I think that when you explain to us that you are not just a collective, but that each person is different, you are sending us a very important message about respect, because you make us understand what diversity is at the heart of the Plena Inclusión movement. There are people with great support needs, women and girls with intellectual disabilities who require certain help or people with cognitive difficulties who live in remote places. But these are just a few examples. This Platform will ensure that you can unite common interests to improve different life situations. Because each of you is important. And I also like the responsibility that you demonstrate in how you present yourself: you want this platform to be a meeting place to claim, but also to contribute and be part of the society to which you belong with all the consequences and all the necessary help. It is a great change of outlook necessary and aligned with a human rights approach.

Thank you for proposing this trip to all of us, thank you for continuing to work every day to improve ourselves and to put on our table the true concerns, interests and rights, which are everyone's. I hope we will see each other very soon to continue to value your work.
