Are there any warriors among us that play Tekken 8 on PS5 or PC?
🤨 Do you think you're tougher than me? Do you want to fight? 🤬
😑 No. Not my thing, but whatever makes you happy, "warrior" 🙄
Shoot me a message if you want to fight?

A Severe Lack of Polish
Can you lose your status as a black belt?
I’ve been thinking about my own, and how crap I’ve become on the mat. That I’m not performing at a black belt level.

Took my grading for 1st Dan yesterday!
It was awesome, I left literally dripping sweat, I did the entire grading right in front of the England Squad coach, got asked to spar in the next group because I was the best at sparring in my group and they had odd numbers so I was sparring for almost a solid hour, I got kicked in the face by a dude twice my size and it knocked me out for a second, came to before I hit the floor and carried on (my fault, my guard dropped because I was exhausted), but most importantly I think it went well!
Have to wait until Thursday to find out if I passed, hopefully I did and I get presented my belt at Thursdays class because I get deployed with the Army next week so I wont be training for ages!
I’ve already taught myself Ge-Baek and Kwang-Gae so it’ll be super awkward if I’ve failed ahahahahahah

The next step
Over the weekend I tested for shodan at the maritime IKD spring clinic under Josef Woon-A-Tai, 7th Dan. I was informed today by my sensei that I am no longer a brown belt - speculating that I have passed. The official belt ceremony is tomorrow, but I have been told the news early. It has been five years since the beginning of my training, and it definitely wasn’t without its trials and moments of difficulty.
I have been thinking about what it means to have a black belt, and will write a post in the future on what it entails and means to acquire a black belt. A black belt is just a darkly colored belt - but also a symbol, and definitely isn’t something you can just “get”.
An end to one journey, and a beginning of another journey.
Jorge Farelas
I received my first degree black belt in the UTF in May of 2002 under Master James Langlas. I have been teaching from 2002 to present day but only on a weekly basis since 2009. Aside from Tae kwon-do I have also studied Krav Maga, Tang Soo Do, Hapkido, Jeet Kune Do, Wing Chun, Kenpo Karate, Yoshitaka Karate, Shoalin Longfist Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and kick boxing, I also have learned various weapons such as bo staff, nunchukus, tonfas, escrima sticks, and bokken.
Bryan Koch
Bryan Koch comes from Winfield, Illinois, where he earned his first degree black belt under Master James Langlas in 1998. After moving away, he earned another black belt in another form of tkd, and studied Judo and Ju Jitsu. From tkd to school tutoring, Bryan has been teaching in some capacity for most of his life. He loves to watch people achieve their goals and exceed their own expectations. He is married with one son and lives happily in Beaverton. Bryan “works” as a designer of board games, and makes his own cheese for fun.
