I love this. Sam is such a great leader. He always has been but he hasn’t always been given the opportunity to shine. He has always been okay with letting Dean take the lead. And although Dean is great, I don’t think he’s really a leader in the same sense that Sam is. Sam works well with a plan. He has a diplomatic way of approaching people and understanding other perspectives. He is not a shoot first, figure it out later kind of guy (not that we don’t need that once in awhile!) and for that he also makes a great teacher to these new recruits.

He’s hesitant because he’s not used to being in this role, but it suits him very well! I’m so glad Mary was the one to say this to him as well. Sure, Dean, Cas, or Jack could have said this, or AU!Bobby or AU!Charlie, but coming from Mary it means the most. Mary simultaneously knows Sam and doesn’t know Sam. So Sam can understand she’s not just saying these things to make him feel better the way Dean, Cas, or Jack might, but also understand that she sees more than any AU character could ever understand of Sam. Plus, you know, it is his mom.

Bobby called Mary sunshine a few episodes ago

Mary talked to Sam about how Bobby has major emotional walls up and it’s hard to get through to him

Sam told her if she really cares she should try to see what’s behind them regardless of how painful it may be

Now Bobby and Mary are going off to a cabin like some freaking canon divergent fan fiction where they figure out how life works when they’re not obsessing over hunting and convincing themselves the ugly way is how it will always end

I don’t know whether to be angry or appreciate these BLATANT parallels to Destiel, so I’ll settle with both. Both? Both is good
