Warnings: Mentions of Genocide caused by Orcs, angst
Summary: The Company stumbles across a large clearing surrounded by trees filled with the remains of houses. When a storm breaks over them they are forced to take refuge in one of the shelters. They learn more about the readerâs past.
A/N: This is extremely late and was written for @dumbassunderthemountainââs 13 Days of Spooky Writing Event. I plan on completing the event anyway despite it already being November because I had fun writing these and Iâm not one to leave things unfinished if I donât have to. I broke my laptop, my cat decided to get tangled in my charger and dragged it through the apartment, and life decided to throw things at me as soon as I started this event. Also super short, I thought it was longer, and unedited. Iâll edit all of them when Iâm done.
3rd person Pov:
The company could tell that something was up with (Y/N). It seemed as though the further they got from the shire and closer to where Gandalf was leading them the tenser, she got. She sat hunched over her horse gripping the reigns so hard her knuckles bleached. The company exchanged worried glances and murmurs among each other. The weather turns colder and darker as they continue on deeper into the forest. Â The company stop as the near a clearing of trees. (Y/N) slides of her horse and wobbly makes her way to the edge. Kili goes to move towards her but Gandalf holds out his staff. His face shows guilt and sorrow. âThis was her home. Her clan.â he says as she drops to her knees.
Your Pov:
You bow your head at the edge of your territory your hands fisting in the grass. You can feel the spirits pressing against the veil between this plain and the next. You flinch at the clap of thunder that sounds in the distance. The company would need to camp here until the storm passed. You hear the tap of Gandalfâs staff against the ground before stopping next to you. âWeâll be camping in one of the buildings.â He says and you nod. You hear a few of the others grumble at the idea. Saying that this place was nothing but a bunch of piles of rubble. Anger fills you as they dismiss your old home as though it was disgusting and beneath them. You stand up and round on the company. âHow dare you!â you seethe feeling your magic responds strongly to your anger and engulfs you in your dark fire. âThis is my home. A once sacred place that was desecrated by orcs and was once flooded with the blood of my people.â Thorin goes to step foreward and your snarl your animal coming out. âHow would you feel if I said that Erebor was nothing, but a pitiful kingdom built into a mountain that was destroyed because of itsâ rulerâs petty greed.â You spit out before turning feeling your body start to shift.
You take off shifting as you run. Your paws tear into the earth as you make your way into the forest towards the river that flowed inside your territory. The storm breaks just as you get to the river and sit on its edge. The cool rain soaks your molted black and grey fur. You bow your head once again letting the tears fall. They drip off the end of your muzzle to mix with the rain soaking the riverbank. Memories of that night flow your mind like the swift moving river before you. The cries of the children for their mothers and the calls of the men for their mates. Your fathers weathered face as he pleads for you to run. That they would by you some time for you and the children to run. That didnât happen. You and what few of the children remained, those barely able to walk let alone run, made it as far as the tree line before being taken out by arrows. You had the scar on your hip from where an arrow had struck you. You sheathe and unsheathe your claws at the memory of Azogâs warg dragging you across the blood-soaked ground to its master. Â You remember Azogâs sick smile as you were knocked out. You are brought out of your mind by a cool hand running through your fur. You stiffen as you feel a presence sit down beside you. âWhat is the matter my child?â the presence asks in a voice so familiar. âMama!â you try to say but it comes out a low whine. You shift back into your human form and turn to the presence.
The incorporeal body of your mother is knelt on the ground beside you. Her figure bleached of all color. âMama.â You breathe out this time and she moves her hand to your cheek. You feel a cool sensation but nothing solid. âI wish I could hug you.â She says sadly and you nod. âWhy are you still here, trapped within this plain?â you ask her, and she gives a small smile. âOur task is not done. Our promise has not been fulfilled nor our want. In due time, child we will cross the river and join the eternal hunt.â My fatherâs ghost joins my motherâs. âGo back to your company. Some of the restless here donât want them on our land. With you with them the spirits should calm.â He urges me so I make my way back to the company following my sense of smell. They had taken shelter in what used to be the great hall.
You make your way into the building and the company bolts from their spots weapons drawn. âNo! Thatâs (Y/N).â Gandalf says quickly stepping In between you and the company. You let out a huff of air before walking out. You would let Gandalf deal with the Initial explanation. You patrol a small section around the great hall, wondering If this will be the only haunted place the company will make camp at.

Here it is Halloween and I really thought I would get to a few more of these...I wrote a few pages on a couple of other prompts but couldnât figure out how to end them. I still might post the Costume one, because it came out so cute (if I can come up with an ending). I guess my take-away is I need to work on my short story game. In my defense, I usually write long, multi-chapter fics and short stories are a completely different animal.Â
This challenge fun! Thanks to @dumbassunderthemountainâ for letting me play along.

A last day of 13 days of spooky writing event, I really liked this event and canât believe is the last day! It was really quick.

âOnce upon a time, there was a scary, very scary creature,â Kili started one of his ghost stories. The fire was creating deep shadows in his face, his voice, deeper than usual, was sending a shivers down your spine.
âA squirrel,â You pointed out and the dwarves chuckled. Kili shot you a glare, but didnât said anything.
âThis creature was a hideous, evil, hateful man. He seemed to be hating everything and everyone,â You rolled your eyes and noticed Bilbo looking uncomfortable.
âUntil he have seen a fluffy rabbit and named it Sir Raisin Maker II., because the villagers were idiots and he wanted to prank them.â The dwarves royared with laughter, Kiliâs glare making it all even funnier. You gave him a smirk and looked away.
You and Kili never got along really well. In fact, you hated each other. The Company has already tried to make you two go along, but no, it never worked. You would always do some remarks, just to annoy him for fun. Today, it was not different â especially because Bilbo was afraid, and you knew Kili was doing this on purpose, to scare the poor hobbit.
And you wonât let him.
Before he could say anything else, Bombur said that the dinner was ready. You were on cooking duty with him today, and didnât wanted to let Kili get away with this, of course. You took a bowl for him and Fili, and adding to his a bit more pepper. Noone noticed, and you quickly mixed it, so he wouldnât be souspicious.
You handed the bowls to Fili and Kili. Once they started to eat, youâve overheard Kiliâs sneezing (maybe you left some dust of the pepper on the handle of the spoon), and quietly giggled. You took your own bowl and sat down between Bofur and Bilbo. You quietly asked Bilbo,
âAre you okay?â He quickly nodded and whispered back,
âThank you.â You only nodded. Then you whispered again,
âAnytime.â
Meantime, Fili frowned, when his brother was slowly eating his dinner, and frowning at you, sending you angry glares.
âWhatâs goinâ on, Kee? You usually eat quicker,â Kili turned his face to his brother.
âShe gave something into it, itâs too spicy, itâs burning my tongue,â He quietly complained. Fili was holding back laughter. You surely knew how to get back for things his brother did, plus something extra.
âIf anything, you will finally shut up,â Fili murmed. Kiliâs eyes widened.
âWhat did you said, Fili?! Wha-â
âSHUT UP, YOU CHICKEN!â You yelled at him, wanting to listen to some stories that Bofur was telling you, Bilbo, Ori and Nori. Kiliâs eyes widened. You would always bring up some nickname, that had to do something with his scruff, because you knew he hated it (or the fact the acted as a child sometimes, but he didnât wanted to admit that). Thorin had enough of your bickering.
âGo and fetch some firewood, you two and Fili. Donât wake the whole forest and come back early,â He said, his voice not allowing any argument. Once you were deeper in the forest, Fili mourmed.
âVery funny, amralime,â You turned to him.
âWhat did you said?â Fili smirked and nudged his brother. Kili hissed.
âNothing.â You narrowed your eyes and Fili said,
âItâs a word in Khuzdul we call a person, whoâs annyoing.â You nodded in acknowledgement, being a human and having no idea what Khuzdul sounded and was like. Kiliâs eyes widened and Fili rolled his eyes. He could clearly see in his brotherâs behaviour what was the problem.
When you were coming back, you went first, because you were quicker. Kili hissed at his brother,
âI donât know what are you trying to do, but stop it,â Fili innocently smiled.
âOh, me? Nothing.â
Back in camp, you sat back near Bilbo, Bofur, Ori and Nori and listened some cheerful stories. Fili noticed his brotherâs stare, his eyes reflecting the flames and anger, his blood was most likely boiling. Fili chuckled.
âYou can go and tell her, how you did you tried to put whole bowl of strawberries to your mouth when you were a dwarfling. Iâm sure it will sweep her off her feet,â Kiliâs eyes widened and his face got red. He tried to cover it, but Fili noticed and laughed. Dwalin, sitting next to them, also laughed. Oin was confused, as he couldnât hear them properly.
âWhatâs goinâ on, lads? Who was weeping?â Kili noticed Dori and jumped up, his cheeks covered in blush, trying to stop him.
âNo, Dori-â
âHe said the lad should go and sweep lady Y/N off her feet,â The whole camp went quiet, but most of the dwarves laughed a second after. Kili glared at them.
âWhy would I did it?! Sheâs the most annoying person here!â He glared at you, being in shock, but you quickly rolled your eyes.
âOh, calm down, amralime.â The whole camp went silent, confused laugh escaping them. Bofur rose his brows.
âWhen you were planning on telling us?â He looked at you and then at Kili. You frowned.
âWhat?â Bofur sighed.
âThat you two are in love with each other, obviously. But that doesnât matter, we already know now. Just donât -â You stood up and walked towards Fili, purpose in every step. Your eyes were angry and Fili gulped.
âYou,â You growled and firmly held his collar, so he had to look in your angry eyes. You could see true fear in his eyes.
âWhat does amralime really means?â Fili nervously chuckled.
âUhm, it means...well...â
âIâm listening, Fili. You better talk quickly.â You growled out slowly, the whole Company staring at you. Theyâve never seen you so angry, dangerous, and there was something wild in your eyes.
âIt means something like âmy loveâ in Khuzdul,â He said, almost whispering. You let go of his collar and he fell on his butt. Your hands were shaking, and you looked at Kili. He noticed a surprise, fear and softness he never seen on you before. In a second, you looked away.
âI need a walk,â You mumbled and runned into forest. The whole Company was now staring at the brothers.
âGive the lass some time,â Balin said.
âShe might be in a shock.â
They were waiting for you, and when you didnât came in an hour, two, two and a half hours, they got up and decided to find you.
A loud scream from the forest caught their attention.
Kiliâs face paled and he quickly runned into the forest. He was trying to figure out where did it went from, and thought about you. Whenever he annoyed you, whenever he was making you angry, he wanted your attention. You always seemed to be around the hobbit, talking to him and protecting him. He had no idea why, but he was jealous, so jealous, and he wanted your attention only for himself, he wanted you to be his. But he was an annoying prick to you, a dork you always just rolled your eyes on and gave him some witty comeback.
If he wouldnât do it, Fili wouldnât be in his âprotective, annoying and big brotherâ mood, wouldnât try to pair you, you would stay in camp and he wouldnât be worried sick if you were even alive.
He noticed a voices near, and whimpers. The voices were quickly away, the wimpers were growing more quiet. He heard sobbing, and it was breaking his heart.
âY/N?â He whispered. Your name rolled off of his tongue so easily.
âKee?â You whispered, careful. He quickly walked towards you, moonlight illuminating your wet, dirty and scratched face. It was all his fault.
He kneeled down to you.
âAre you injured anywhere?â You pointed to your stomach and he carefully rolled up your tunic, you both blushing.
A cut was there, with a blood around. He hissed.
âI will take you back, just stay awake. Please,â He whispered. You nodded and he took you in bridal style back to the camp, where Bilbo, Ori, Oin and Balin stayed, just in case someone would find you and you would need help, which was handy now.
âWhat happened?â He asked you in whisper. You fluttered your eyelids to cover tears.
âTwo orcs,â You whispered.
âI would kill them, if I took a weapon with me, but I didnât had any.â You scrunched your face in bitter expression.
âThey...they were talking about murdering me, but...I donât know, maybe they heard you, but they went away...â Kiliâs body filled with anger.
âI will find them and kill them, for hurting you.â He said deadly serious.
âWhat happened back in camp,â You whispered carefully.
âDo you-do you-â He sighed.
âIâm sorry, but I...I was jealous, because you and Bilbo were always together and I didnât knew how to talk to you, so I just tried to catch your attention by annoying you, and it worked.â You giggled.
âYouâre an idiot, Master dwarf,â He snorted and rolled his eyes.
âOh, amralime,â You raised a brow and he blushed.
âIâm sorry, Iâm not gonna call you like this, I promise-â You snorted.
âAnd I just wanted to tell you I love you,â You murmed. His eyes widened.
âWait, you-you love me?â You laughed.
âHow couldnât I love you, you dork?â He huffed.
âYouâre wounded, amralime!â
âLuckily, itâs just a scratch and thereâs a lot of blood and dirt around.â You both smirked at each other and when you entered the camp, Kili carefully placed you on your bedroll and Oin came to take care of your wounds. Kili pecked your lips softly and let Oin to do what needed.
When the other members of the Company came back, they noticed you, leaning on Kiliâs chest, him playing with your hair and you enjoying the warmth. Fili rose his brow.
âWait, what happened?â You and Kili looked at him.
âThey bumped their heads into a tree, I cannot explain it differently,â Nori mourmed and you all chuckled.
âWell, not really.â You smirked and kissed Kili shortly. Some of others did a gagging sound.
âIâve liked âem more when they hated each other,â Gloin murmed and others chuckled. Fili sat down to you.
âBut wait with children âtill we reclaim Erebor-WAIT NO DONâT THROW IT!â Fili quickly covered his head when you threw a shoe at him.
It seemed like you will never be bored with the Durinâs family.

Ever since Thranduil was a child, there was something, that drawned him to Mirkwood forest. It wasnât the danger, of course. He was surrounded by guards all the time so he was safe, being the only child and in the line for the throne.
Which also meant a lot of duties.
But every single night, he would look out of window to the darkness of the forest. He already tried to find out what it was. The palace was a safe place. Nobody would just walk in there by themselves, and Mirkwood didnât affected anyone in this kingdom.
One night, he couldnât sleep. He was tossing in his bed and many thoughts  were running through his head. A few hours before, his father, Oropher, tried to talk to him about a marriage. Thranduil knew it was something that would come up sooner or later, but it still made his blood boiling. He was talking to some elven princesses of other realms, but he still felt too young for courting or a marriage.
After another sleepless hour, he decided to get up. The moonlight was stronger today â it was a full moon â so he would perhaps read for a while.
He took one of his books he had on his desk, and sat down, next to one of those big windows he had in his chambers. He looked out and let his thoughts to run through his head. He didnât tried to catch any of them and think of it more, he just let them to slip away, and perhaps come back. It gave him some peace and helped him to clear his head a bit.
Suddenly, he noticed a movement outside in the dark. His eyes narrowed. It wasnât a spider, this creature was smaller. It wasnât an elf, because it wasnât graceful at all. He narrowed his eyes.
A human.
He didnât knew why, but quickly got up, book being forgotten. He quickly took his bow and arrows and his sword, then soundlessly moving as a cat, through the shadows of halls of his home. He knew his father was asleep at this time of the night, so he couldnât stop him.
Once he made it outside of the gates, sneaking out, he noticed the human. He stayed in the shadows, through he was much closer than before. He was studying the human and his eyes widened.
A human woman, whom made it to the palace? What a strange thing, he softly scoffed. He didnât trusted easily, and this was much more suspicious, though he felt a need to come closer and find out who she was.
You remembered going to the forest for a walk, when it was getting darker. You wanted to turn around and go back, but it felt like the forest was alive and your path was nowhere to be seen. You walked futher, hoping youâd find a way out.
You didnât knew how much time passed, perhaps a few hours. Your legs were aching, your mind was tired and hazy and the only light was sky with stars. Soon after, the trees became so thick you couldnât see almost anything, only a few feet ahead. Every sound was scaring you, you were tired, hungry and thirsty. It felt like the forest was endless.
Finally, you noticed a blue lights. You came closer to them, feeling warmth radiating from them. You shivered in fear, but also a cold. When did the forest became so cold, in the middle of summer?
You had no idea
Your mind was telling you to reach to them and touch them, you didnât realized that the forest was playing with your mind. Once you touched the light by the tips of your fingers, you hissed. A strange pain and hot waves shot through your body and you fell down. You silently cursed yourself for touching it.
Your body was tingling, nothing else, so you got up and decided to walk futher. Your legs suddenly didnât hurted, your steps became lighter and quicker, somehow. You didnât even realized that, though. You were deep in the forest. There was only way - through, as way back was lost hours before.
After another few hours you stepped near some huge castle. You couldnât believe it and let out a silent cry. Finally, a place where you could ask for help, and maybe they would let you to rest for a while.
Slowly, an uncomfortable feeling was creeping through your whole body. Something, or someone, was watching you. You looked around, trying to figure out the direction. It was still dark, but the castle had some lights on a different places. Small fires, to be exact. It reminded you of a fairies from legends.
Thranduil was watching her. Her clothes didnât looked like anything he knew, and she seemed to be curiously looking over the castle. She had no weapons, as much as he could see. He narrowed his blue eyes. Suspicious. He decided to step out, bow and arrow prepared. Even if she would try anything, he would be quicker. He worked hard for many years, and used his natural abilities of being quick and swift. As a warrior, he was surely not one to be messed up with.
âWhat is a human doing in Mirkwood?â He said, still in shadows. The woman turned around quickly and rose her hands.
âI-Iâm sorry, I got lost in a forest...Iâve been lost for hours-â She said. The young prince wasnât really into too many adventures, he was rather serious. But there was something about this woman...
The next thing he knew was that he was picking her up and yelling to get a healer. She fell apart, her skin was cold and her breathing soft. He runned through the corridors, the guards looking after him.
Once he placed the woman to the bed, he felt the need to stay near her. When the healer arrived, he stood to the corner and his icy eyes were wondering back to her face, again and again. She was beautiful. She looks like a fairy, he thought.
Then, one of his fatherâs guards stepped in, nodding at him to go with him. Thranduil quickly looked at the woman. Her cheeks had a slight blush, and a slight warm feeling warmed him inside.
Once he stepped to the throne room, he knew there was something wrong. His father was turned by his back to him and all the guards left. It was only Thranduil and Oropher. Not like a prince and a king. Like a father and a son.
There was a moment of silence. Oropher was more temperament than Thranduil, and so he couldnât hide his emotions the way Thranduil could. The young prince sensed a bit of anger and surprise in the air, his father was surely trying to hold his emotions back from bursting out. He was maybe waiting for Thranduil to say something, but he didnât dared to say anything. No. Just not yet.
The king took a deep breath.
âI hope that you understand what you just did.â Thranduil nodded, though Oropher couldnât see him.
âYou just woke up the whole castle, son. Why was that?â Now was Thranduil a bit surprised. He thought the guards told his father what happened.
âThere was a woman, Ada,â Thranduil started carefully.
âShe fell apart, so I took her inside. She had no weapons and she was weak.â Oropher turned to him and studied his son for a while.
âWas she a human?â Thranduil opened his mouth to answer, when a soud of knock on the door appeared in the throne room.
âCome in,â Oropher said. A guard and healer came in.
âMy king,â Both of them bowed. The healer looked at Thranduil, nervous.
âThe woman has woken up,â She said. âshe was asking for the man who helped her.â Thranduil looked at Oropher, who seemed to be thinking about it.
âI will go with you, my son.â He said.
When you woke up, you realized you were warm. You tried to move, but someone pushed you softly back.
âYou need rest,â Youâve overheard a voice. You frowned. This voice was too soft, it didnât sounded much like humanâs voice...
You opened your eyes and noticed a woman, who was folding some clothes. You noticed her ears, with sharp ends, soft long hair and delicate movements while folding the clothes. Your mind was hazy, but it wasnât like back in the forest. This was a haziness from medication. You closed your eyes and drifted back to sleep.
In a while, you woke up again, from a nightmare this time. The woman was looking at you, concerned.
âPlease, I need him, I need to-that blonde man, blue eyes, I-â You tried to catch your breath and calm down. She handed you a glass with some liquid, smelling like herbs.
âDrink this, this will help you to calm down,â You were carefully sipping it. It tasted sweet, like honey. Soon, you closed your eyes to slumber, once again.
When Thranduil stepped in, he went closer, to take a look at her. He didnât knew who this woman was, where did she came from and all of that, but he knew he wanted to stay close to her. To protect her.
She seemed to be asleep. She looked calm and in peace. Thranduil looked for any injury, but didnât found any. He noticed her ears though â they had a sharp edges, her skin was soft and delicate, her hair seemed to be soft too. Sheâs an elf, he thought.
Oropher looked down at her, too. He raised a brow.
âSo a human woman, you said?â
âI probably didnât noticed. It was dark.â
You started waking up from your slumber, hearing two male voices. One of them said something like âLeave us alone,â.
You blinked your eyes, trying to recognize his face. He leaned a bit forward, carefully. You could tell he was ready to pull away, but there was also something gentle about his moves.
âWhere-where am I?â You whispered. Your whole body was aching, your ears were itchy for some reason, and you wanted to eat something.
âIn Mirkwood palace...my lady,â He said, carefully picking words.
âOh, Iâm Y/N, thereâs no need to call me a lady,â You said, blinking as your vision cleared. You gasped. He was beautiful. His long blonde hair, blue eyes, delicate features...
âAre you alright, lady Y/N? Should I call for the healer?â He asked. You looked away and blushed.
âUh, no, just...would you help me to sit up? Please?â His arm slid on your back and helped you to sit up. You felt sudden cold on your skin and covered yourself more with the blanket. You looked down. You were in your underwear, and your cheeks burned red. You looked up and realized he did the same.
âI, uhm...who are you?â You asked. He looked firmly to your eyes, not sliding down.
âIâm Thranduil, the prince of Mirkwood,â He kissed your hand. You felt a warm feeling inside of your body. Little did you knew he felt the same thing.
A few strands of your hair slided down to your face and you quickly placed them behind your ear. Wait, you frowned. You touched your ear again. It was pointy. You shook your head.
âNo...no, this cannot...this canât be...â Thranduil looked at you, concerned.
âWould you hand me a mirror, please?â You asked. He handed you a small mirror and you looked into it. Your jaw fell down.
You were an elf.
You looked closely at your skin, soft, perfect skin, soft lips, delicate features, shiny hair and pointy ears. You looked up on Thranduil.
âI-Iâm an elf? What happened?â Now it was him who was confused. âWhat else should you be, my lady?â You looked back at yourself. Your face looked familiar, but strange at the same time.
âWhat if we would take a walk, and explain to each other what happened? Iâm sure that fresh air and some food will make you feel better,â He offered. You slowly nodded and nervously smiled.
âOh, I would like that very much,â Thranduil nodded and placed the mirror on itâs place.
âWould you like to rest, or to go right now, lady Y/N?â He asked, blue eyes questioning. Though you were still in shock, you nodded. If there will be some food and fresh air, it could actually only help you.
âI would like to go now, thank you. I need to put on some clothes, though,â You said and the prince handed you a few folded pieces of clothing.
âI will wait outside, my lady,â He said and left you alone. Once he was outside, he let out a breath. He never felt like this towards a woman. What was that warm feeling spreading inside, whenever she smiled? Oh, her beautiful name, Y/N. That sounded like a name of a fairy! Wait...he frowned...was this...how does love feels like? He didnât knew what to do. He wonât go to his father, because he knew him way too well, and he would say something like âOh, my boy has grown up!â And celebrate it as his own personal accomplishment.
Making it more awkward than it was supposed to be, as always.
You looked through the clothes, finding a two long shirts, trousers, a dress and another dress. One of them were simple dark green, the other dress were in lavander colour, tiny golden leaves embroidered around the waist and little silver stars and golden moon crescents around the edges of elbow-length sleeves. You decided to put on these.
You found a brush here and brushed your hair quickly. Then you carefully opened the door, revealing yourself to the prince. Your cheeks were dusted by rosy blush, as his eyes widened at the sight of you. In his eyes, you were stunning.
Since then, after you told the prince and the king what happened to you, they let you to stay, since you didnât knew where else to go. You and Thranduil got closer over time, sharing the same favourite places around the palace and in the garden.
One day, youâve been sitting in the garned, under your favourite tree. You were reading a book, while Thranduil was pacing around, clearly nervous about something. You softly smiled.
âWhatâs bothering you, mellon?â He looked at you and quickly looked away. You frowned, closed your book and stood up. They would teach you elvish customs and all of that you didnât knew, Elvish too.
âMellon,â you looked deep to his icy blue eyes and felt familiar butterflies in your stomach. He sighed.
âAmin mella le, melamin,â He whispered with serious expression, one of his hands softly cupping your cheek. You smiled.
âYou know I donât speak that well Elvish. What does it mean?â He took a deep breath.
âI love you,â He said. He was about to go away, but you gently took his hand.
âAmin mella le, melamin.â You tried to repeat. He turned to you, surprised. You just nodded, nervous, with a smile. A smile appeared on his face, too.
âWill you allow me to court you then, Y/N?â You nodded and you both sat back to the grass, Thranduil carefully braiding your hair. You did the same, though it wasnât an elvish courting braid at all, but a braid it was.
Now, you had to tell Oropher, somehow. Thranduil was more reserved to people he didnât knew, Oropher was more temperament. Sometimes you overheard their arguments, which could get loud.
You were sitting at the dinner, Thranduil trying to figure out how to approach the subject, when Oropher noticed his hair.
âMy son...so you and lady Y/N are finally courting?â You and Thranduil choked on your meal.
âWell, yes father, we are,â Thranduil said. Oropher smiled. The alcohol from wine he was drinking was kicking in.
âAbout time, my son. Iâve seen you looking at her ever since youâve been showing her around. Let me arrange your wedding,â He said and sipped on his wine again.
âWe donât want to rush anything,â You said carefully, placing your hand on Thranduilâs to help him relax a bit.
âOh, thatâs a good statement too, lady Y/N. Good things take time,â He said. You noticed Thranduilâs face, blushing. You pecked his cheek and didnât let of his hand until the end of the dinner. He seemed to be glad.
This is my entry for the prompt of back cat for day 11 of the 13 days of spooky writing event hosted by @dumbassunderthemountainâ. Sorry its a little odd I wanted to test out framing devices and do something different from anything I have heard before so here it is.Â
Before you read: This is starting out taking place from the perspective of the readers pet black cat. C/N Represents cat name, I was not sure what to name the cat and want reader to be able to put their cat in the story if they choose so yeah. I hope you guys like my attempt at framing device use and the cat is heavily based around Salem from Sabrina the teenage witch, also the cat can talk so yeah. This story is supposed to be kinda absurd and funny so don't think about the whole talking cat thing too logically.Â
Also yes Ik I used the joke purr-fect an absurd amount and no one can change that!
C/N POV:Â
I sighed as I watched my human y/n and that elven prince Legolas talk. They were both unbearably awkward, it hurt to watch. They both obviously liked each other yet neither would admit it. Two leggers can be so absurd at times with always making everything so complex.Â
I guess I'm just going to have to lend a paw and take some time out of my napping schedule to help these hopeless beings. I mean they say charity is good for the soul right?Â
What will my plan be to help them? Aww I got! I have a purr-fect way to intervene and fix this, I just need to find someone to help me.Â
I trotted along the halls of Mirkwood looking for some elf to possibly assist me and saw no other than the king. He can help, it is his son after all and Tharnduils bad parenting that has made Legolas so damm nervous.Â
âHey! giant blond tree king.â I hollered as I ran to catch up to him.Â
The king sighed and rolled his eyes as he looked down. âif it isn't my least favorite being. Your lucky your lady y/nâs cat fur ball or else you would be a perfect scarf. â The king complained.
âI need your help, so stop complaining.â I commanded the king.Â
âand why would I, the great king of mirkwood help you?â Thranduil inquired.
âBecause it will help your son.âÂ
âHow so?âÂ
âI have devised a genius plan to make Legolas and y/n finally confess their feelings.âÂ
âAnd how does this plan involve me?âÂ
I Explained my genius plan to the king, he smiled slightly and agreed to help me. Purr-fect.
...... Y/n POV
I waved prince Legolas goodbye and returned to my room. If only I was brave enough to tell Legolas how I felt, but he could never feel the same way right?Â
Once I opened my door I noticed an elegant looking envelope placed on my bed with a rose, what could this be? I carefully opened the envelope and pulled out the letter in side.
Dearest Y/n
I request your presence in the royal garden at 10:00 pm by the fountain.
All my love,
sincerely your secret admirer and lover.Â
Who could this letter be from I thought? Could it maybe be Legolas, it is written on royal stationary. It might just be him! Does that mean Legolas loves me? I look over at my clock to see its 9:30 pm already and hastily open my closet to try to find the best dress I have to wear.
Once I get dressed and the clock strikes ten I make my way to the mystical royal garden, with a hopeful smile upon my face. As I walk to the fountain I see a blond figure dressed extremely formally, as the figure turns to face me my heart swells as I realize it is Legolas.
âLegolas, So You did send me the letter?â I ask anticipation laced in my voice.
âLetter? Â I was going to ask if you sent a letter to me.â Legolas asked confused.Â
âWait.. I did not send a letter to you and it seems you did not send one to me...â
âSomeone set us upâ Legolas finished my sentence coming to my same conclusion.
âUmm... Well, Since we have been put here in this situation now is as good as time as any, though its not what I expected this would look like. y.n, Would you do me the honor of allowing me to court you?â Legolas asked with a shaky nervous voice.Â
âOf course yes!â I exclaimed being over taken by excitement and ran to hug Legolas catching him off guard.
C/N POV:
I sat watching the scene unfold below on the Kings balcony with a small pur as my tail swayed behind me.Â
âMy plan worked perfectly, Im a genius!â I exclaimed.
âYour plan? You wanted to feed them catnip and force them into a room together.â Thranduil stated with annoyance.
âWell how was I supposed to know catnip did not work on humans or elves?â
âIt is called CAT-nip, Its kinda self explanatory. It was my plan that did this, it warms my heart to see young love and my son happy. Reminds me of many millennia ago when I-â Thranduil was cut off.
âYeah yeah, I get your old. Now shush snow white and let me revel in my success.âÂ

A/N: Omg weâre almost to Halloween!
âY/N!â Legolas called. âY/N, where are you?â
Far away, he heard two sets of footsteps coming his way. Not long after, he saw Estel chasing Y/N playfully.Â
âIâm going to get you!â he said, laughing.Â
âNo!â Y/N cried, her laughs sounding almost like shrieks.Â
Legolas crossed his arms and waited for them to get closer. Y/N made a sharp right turn into an enclosed garden. Estel was about to follow when Legolasâ blond hair caught his eye. His smile grew.
âLegolas!â
Estel made his way over to the elf, panting for breath.Â
âHow are you?â Estel asked.Â
Legolas took his outstretched arm and patted his back.Â
âI am well, my young friend. Patrolling went smoothly,â Legolas said.Â
Estel sighed.Â
âI only wish the patrols could have caught the orcs that murdered Y/Nâs parents,â Estel said quietly. âLord Elrond asked me to keep her busy until dinner.â
âShe has been rather quiet. It is worrying in a girl her age. She seems to have opened up to you.â
Estel chuckled. âWell, Iâm as close to her age as sheâs going to get among you immortal elves.â
Legolas smiled. âThat is true.â
At that moment, Y/N emerged from the garden and ran past them. Both the elf and the teenager hurried to catch up to her.Â
âWhere are you going, missy?â Estel said.Â
âDinner?â she asked.Â
âDinner is almost ready,â Legolas said. âAre you hungry?â
Y/N nodded. Legolas and Estel noticed she was purposely keeping her back to them and her arms crossed in front of her. They exchanged a glance. Legolas took a few quick steps until he was in front of her, blocking her path. The little minx veered around him, but Legolasâ elf eyes did not miss the bulge in the front of her shirt.Â
âY/N, what is that?â Legolas said.Â
He caught her shoulders, stopping her. Estel came around in front of her as well, just in time to see two fluffy black ears peek above the collar of her shirt. Legolas chuckled.Â
âEstel,â he said. âHumans do not normally have two heartbeats, do they?â
âNo, they do not, Legolas. Nor do they usually have furry chests, especially at such a young age!â
With his last few words, Estel reached forward and started tickling Y/Nâs sides. She giggled and dropped her hands. A black cat slid out of her shirt and landed on its feet between them. It turned around and rubbed itself against Y/Nâs ankles. Estel gasped.Â
âWhat have we here, Y/N?â Estel asked dramatically.Â
âCat! Shh!â she said, putting a hand to her lips.Â
âOh, is the cat a secret?â Legolas said.Â
Y/N nodded solemnly. âFeed cat. Elâond get mad?â
âWill Elrond get mad? Of course not, sweetheart!â Legolas exclaimed.Â
âIâm sure Lord Elrond likes cats too!â Estel added. âBut where⌠where did you find it?â
He and Legolas exchanged a puzzled glance. Cats were rare in this region. Y/N picked up the cat again, and it settled itself on her shoulder. With her free hand, Y/N pointed back towards the garden.Â
âBush!â she said.Â
â... alright. Well, letâs go get some food for you and the cat, alright?â Estel said.Â
Y/N smiled up at him. She nodded and moved inside. She left Estel and Legolas melting into a puddle where she had been standing.
A/N: I was planning on writing this one in the afternoon, instead I got distracted and wrote it now, in the evening. It was supposed to be Legolas x reader in a romantic way, but idk.
Message me if you want to be added/removed from taglist.
You shifted in your bed and tried to think, if it was only your imagination, or if there was really your friend, trying to wake you up.
âHey, stop it,â You murmed. âItâs way too early.â
You could hear one annoyed âmeow!â, and your elf ears picked up a sound of soft paws landing on the floor and quickly walking away. You frowned.
âFine, fine, Iâm going,â You said and got up from bed.
Your kitten Luna was sitting by the door and turned her head to you. You smiled. You found her a few months ago, when you were coming back from Erebor, along with a puppy you named Mellon.
You couldnât wait to show them to Kili and Fili.
A smile stretched across your lips and Luna let out another âmeowâ. You picked up the skirt of your nightgown a bit, so you wouldnât step on it and fall down.
âIâm going, Iâm going,â You said. She reminded you of Kili, with her personality, being unpatient and wanting to sneak out as soon as possible.
âBut donât scare anyone, itâs way too early.â You told her. You knew she understood to it, though she acted as if she didnât. You looked over your shoulder. Mellon was still asleep.
As soon as you opened the door, Luna was outside in the hall. You knew she loved to explore the Mirkwood castle, especially through the day, and scaring everyone on any occasion.
You quietly walked out of your room, hearing your brotherâs voice
âOh, this black cat, again,â He smiled at Luna. But she was not a one to not scare the shit out of him.
âAAH, no-â You giggled.
âYou should call her by her name, Legolas. Or she will climb up on your shoulder and chew your hair.â You teased him, as Luna was chewing one strand of his hair already. Legolas patted her head and she closed her eyes and purred.
âShe likes me though,â He said and you rolled your eyes.
âDonât forget whoâs the skin-changer.â Legolas smirked.
âOh yes, I forgot. Youâre the pet mom here,â And you both laughed. You were adoped by Thranduil when you were a child, he thought you were elven, but a few years later you found out about your ability to change into an animal form â any animal form you wanted, to be exact. When the dwarves appeared here in Mirkwood, you were curious and decided to help them out â they let you to go with them.
When Erebor was reclaimed, you would visit them quite often. On your way back a few months ago you found Luna and Mellon, and decided to adopt them, but those past few months were really busy, so you didnât visited the dwarves in a while.
As a Princess of Mirkwood, you had your own duties, though you usually got it done quickly, so you could spend as much time as possible with your kitten and puppy, but sometimes, you just procrastinated. The work was pilling up, and sometimes you had to ask Legolas to watch over them to work whole night, just to finish it all.
Day 10 of @dumbassunderthemountainâ 13 Days of Spooky Writing Event
sort of FĂli x femReader
Warnings: a little bit of cursing. Magic, if thatâs a warning.
Word count: 1092
A/N: This is unedited because I have literally five minutes until it is no longer the 28th. Canât believe I spit out over 1000 words.
âY/N! Stop it, get back here!â FĂli called.Â
âWhat? Iâm just looking at this tree right here. Itâs really odd,â Y/N said.
âYou canât wander away from us all the time,â FĂli said, stomping over next to her.
âWhy not? Theyâre camped right there. Iâm not even supposed to be here. The hell is âRivendellâ, anyway?â
Y/N had appeared about a month earlier, just after the Company of Thorin Oakenshield left the elvish city of Rivendell. FĂli grabbed her hand, stopping her from touching the âoddâ tree.
âIt could be poisonous,â FĂli said.
âWell, I donât recognize it.â
âOh, because you know so much about plants,â FĂli said.
He was the first one to befriend her. The others were various degrees of surprised, suspicious, and wary. FĂli took it upon himself to take charge of her, making sure she didnât get lost or cause trouble.
There was a hollow knot in the tree, and something inside it caught Y/Nâs eye. She reached inside and took out a package wrapped in a silk cloth. FĂli and Y/N exchanged a confused glance. Y/N unwrapped it, and inside was a small book.
âA book?â FĂli said. âWhatâs a book doing in the middle of the woods?â
Y/N flipped it open, spying a name on the inside cover. It also said âBook of Shadows.â Y/N gasped.
âOh my god, this belongs to a witch!â she exclaimed.
FĂli looked over her elbow.
âHow can you tell that?â he asked.
âThatâs what Book of Shadows, means, FĂli.â
âWell, donât show Uncle. He doesnât trust magic or magical things.â
Y/N froze. After a moment, she started walking back toward the camp.
âUh, is that right?â she said, chuckling nervously. âGood thing I didnât have mine on me when I got here,â she added under her breath.
âExcuse me, what did you just say?â FĂli said, rushing to catch up to her.
âNothing!â Y/N answered, too quickly.
âNo, you said⌠something. Youâd better tell me now before we get close enough for Uncle to overhear.â
Y/N rewrapped the book and stuffed it in the pocket of her borrowed jacket. She sighed and turned to him.
âIâm a witch. My spellbook, or book of shadows, was not on me when I⌠was sent here,â Y/N explained.
âYou said there is no magic in your realm!â FĂli said accusingly.
âFor most people, there isnât! And thereâs no magic like⌠elves and dragons and shit. I mostly just use herbs and crystals for small spells, andââ
âOkay, okay. Justââ He sighedââJust donât tell Uncle.â
âYeah, definitely not.â
The next few nights saw Y/N sitting far from the fire, looking through the old witchâs spellbook. A lot of the spells were common ones that she used in her daily life for years. Others were more creative, obviously inventions of the bright witch who had owned the book. She was diligent, noting which spells had been effective and which needed improvement. Y/N was itching to try out a few of the spells herself, but suddenly, Thorin was always near her. Finally, she had enough of it. She caught FĂli on his way to go look for firewood.
âHey, FĂ,â she said sweetly.
FĂli looked at her warily. He knew that look.
âWhat?â he said.
âNothing. I was just wondering⌠how are you?â
âJust spit it out, Y/N/N. What do you want?â
âWill you do me a huge favor?â
FĂli looked at her expectantly.
âWill you sit with me for like ten minutes and just keep a look out for your uncle? Thereâs some spells Iâve been dying to try out and your uncle always seems to be around nowadays. I donât know if Iâll get another chance.â
âY/N, Iâm supposed to be gathering firewood.â
âYeah, so? Thereâs plenty around. Besides, if I practice some of these spells, they could turn out to be useful.â
âOh, yeah? Give me an example.â
âWell, for example, the locator spell. When we get to the mountain, I could use it to⌠I donât know, locate that big gem in the pile of gems and gold you all keep talking about?â
FĂli stopped walking. He turned around abruptly, and Y/N almost bumped into him. He pointed to a nearby rock.
âSit there,â he said. âI will be within ten feet at all times. Practice.â
Y/N grinned at him. âOkay.â
She sat on the rock and opened the spellbook in front of her. She took a map of the area out of her pack and took off her pendant necklace.
âWhat are we looking for?â she muttered to herself. âWell, FĂliâs looking for firewood, maybe we can find⌠a bunny or something. Okay. Well, last time I saw a bunny was two days ago. Are there any in this area though? HmâŚâ
FĂli looked over at her. He chuckled and picked up another log. She was a strange one, but he figured she thought the same about him and the rest of the dwarves. He glanced over at her again. She seemed fairly normal, for a witch. Granted, he had never actually met a witch before, but he had heard stories. She was rather attractive, too. For a human, that is. She gasped, drawing him out of his thoughts.
âFĂli look!â she hissed.
She was off of the rock and looking into the trunk of a tree. He groaned.
âYou didnât find another witchâs book, did you?â
âShh! Look. Youâve got to catch them,â she whispered.
She pointed into the trunk. When FĂli looked inside, he saw a couple of rabbits sleeping peacefully. He grinned.
Thorin stood and made his way over to them as soon as they showed up back at camp.
âWhat took so long?â he demanded.
âY/N found us dinner,â FĂli said, still grinning.
Thorin took a closer look at Y/N. She pulled two dead rabbits out of her pack.
âShe found them? How?â Thorin said.
âWell, I was just snooping around. FĂliâs the one that killed them.â
âOh, well I wouldnât have even known they were there if it werenât for youââ
Y/N elbowed him, nearly knocking him over.
âIf it werenât for your uncanny ability to find things,â FĂli finished, glaring at her. âUncle, I think sheâll be useful once we finally take back the mountain.â
Thorin examined Y/N carefully. He grunted and went back to his seat. Y/N smiled proudly at FĂli.
