Calling all Artists! 104th Voice Squadās newest series!
Hey guys, This is James from the 104th Voice Squad! While the group that created the audioplay āAttack on Spaceā, is currently hard at work on āAirheartā I am also in charge of a brand new original project! Allow me to introduce you to āMimiru,ā a short and sweet miniseries that is sure to have you rolling on the floor laughing! It is a project that is close to my heart, as it is something I conceptualized years ago. But now in 2015, it is finally time to bring this world to life and share it with everyone!
So, what is āMimiruā about? Iām sure you wanna know.
āMimiruā is the short story about three middle school students, a cat named Kentaro, a bird named Jay, and a bunny named Mimiru, who accidentally set off a chain of events that turns the boring yet relaxing town of Suntail into the greatest summer of their lives. When the three group together for an assignment where they have to write their own work of fiction while on summer vacation, they decide to visit the oldest library in town for inspiration. However, when they stumble upon and open what seems to be an old dusty novel by an unknown author, they are magically transported into the world of the story! Where did this book come from? Why was it hidden in a boring town like Suntail? And more importantly, how on earth how do these guys find a way back home? Well, at least the question of inspiration for their story is no longer an issueā¦
Mimiru is a slice of life/comedy with a fantasy sprinkled in (well, i mean they are being sent to a magical world right? Sounds like fantasy to me!)
I will be working on the majority of the character designs and sprites myself in order to maintain the distinct visual style of Mimiru. However, it is impossible to work everything on my own without taking forever to do so. By joining Team Mimiru, you get a chance to work on a sweet, lighthearted and funny story, and bring your creative input in how the world of Mimiru is made. I need artists that can help with:
ć»Ā Ā Ā CG art to scatter throughout the episodes, Iāll be looking for artists that can mimic the style I have created well enough, like the example below:
ć»Ā Ā Ā Backgrounds (school, library, Kentaroās home, etc.)
ć»Ā Ā Ā Character designs and concepts
ć»Ā Ā Ā Concept art (mostly of buildingās interior/ exterior, animals/creatures, etc.)
Hopefully the images scattered in this announcement give you an idea for what I am looking for in style, but the most leeway will be in the backgrounds. If you have a cool idea for how backgrounds can look, Iām all (bunny) ears!
Iām working on it, Mimiru! Jeez!
I have a composer willing to assist in setting the tone of the series, But you are still more than welcome to volunteer time to craft music for us as well! For reference, feel free to look to the OST of slice of life and comedy anime like āGekkan Shoujo Nozaki- Kunā or āHidamari Sketchā for inspiration not only during silly and humorous scenes and theme locations like the school or outside in the town of Suntail, but for a few emotional scenes as well. Click on the links below for examples I found that I feel would be close to what the story calls for:
Wanna help? A few things you need to know:
The goal is to create something of a āpilotā for the series, where we create it as a self-contained short story, then based on positive reception, consider the possibility of crowdfunding to help create more episodes. However, any work used for this mini-series, which will range anywhere from one to three episodes based on script, will be on a volunteer basis. No one is making any money from this. You will be properly credited for any work you provide to this production that we use. However, my hope is that there will be enough interest to confidently start some sort of crowdfunding campaign to continue the series in the future, which if successful, will then allow me to re-approach members of the team to continue working on the series, this time with compensation. However, this is by no means a guarantee.
You will need a Skype account in order for me to communicate with you. Once the team has a few members, Iāll create a Skype group in order for the team to be able to communicate and discuss any cool ideas together. I will also contact you via email if needed, especially if the series gets extended to ask you if youād like to continue working on Mimiru.
If you are interested in applying for any position on Team Mimiru, please send an email to [email protected] with the subject āTeam Mimiruā and attach some samples and/or a link to your portfolio, as well as your Skype username, too. If I think you are a great fit or have any questions, I will contact you and we can go from there!
Thatās all for now! Stay tuned for next week as I reveal more information on one of the stars of āMimiru!ā and later, Iāll also present a fun audio promo featuring the voice actors for both Mimiru and Kentaro! Who could they be?! Thanks for reading and Iāll see you later!
