EDUCATION IS THE KEY. Are you familiar with the phrase: “The older you get, the wiser you are”? We go through kindergarten to learn how to write our names, through grade school to learn how to do math and read, through high school to learn complicated math and science and through college to learn how to focus on one thing and be good at it to be able to use it as a profession. Maybe even go through Graduate school to master that profession. But look at this, everyday of our lives, we learn something new. 

But what happens after school? Do you stop learning? Did you learn something new this week? Did you read a book for the past month? 

One advice: Invest in yourself. My parents would tell me that education is the best investment and heirloom they can pass on to us, their children and it’s something nobody can take away from you.

I’m a person with a plan. I like to plan, my month, my week, even my days off I plan what I do. I’m lost without my calendar. And 101 was the best decision I ever made that made me take control of my finances. Finances was never taught in school. And with 101, they helped me take control of something I thought I had under control. Money. After enrolling, I was able to plan my goals, create more plans and I know what’s ahead of me before it even happens.

It’s funny how life can throw curveballs without us even knowing that it’s there, but all you need is a guide to show you how to get at the end of the mountain, or your goals 😉 And hey, if a guide is what’s gonna get you through life, find one. Can you imagine me reading this out loud? 😂 anyway, here’s my 101 story!

“My biggest challenge prior to enrolling was I had a hard time getting my finances organized and I tend to over spend and I had a habit of maxing out my credit cards since I'll just pay them off sooner or later (and of course that never happened), so I built debt over time. I had so much pride and I wanted to be independent so I never asked anybody for help even from my parents and it made me feel stressed and overwhelmed. After enrolling to the 99 class, just with the first class, I was able to organize my finances and build a reasonable budget that still supported my lifestyle. Upon graduating to the 101 class, I was able to pay off all my credit cards and paid off my car loan in full, so a total of almost $40,000 worth of debt within 9 months. It would have been faster but I went on my dream vacation with my boyfriend to Disneyland, Universal Studios and Vegas! Life started after 101 Financial so for those who are still thinking about enrolling, just do it or you'll be like us who regrets not jumping on board as soon as we learned about it.

Did I mention that I was only 24 years old when I accomplished those goals?

How much are you paying for you cable service? How often do you watch TV? Sometimes, we don’t know that we’re paying extra for our services that we don’t even use. Yes, Internet is a must nowadays but do you really need 300+ channels?

Stop and take a look at your bill. What are the perks of your cable service? High speed Internet? Premium channels? Extra 300+ channels that you don’t even watch? Landline that you don’t even use? Check out the deals within your area. Sometimes they have bundles that are cheaper. Or you may want to do ala carte.

Don’t settle and pay for services that you don’t use. Learn how to leverage your money and be creative on ways how to increase your cash flow. Call your cable provider or you may want to research on other providers if you think you’re paying too much.

Where do you see yourself in 3 months? In 1 year? 5 years? 10 years? 20 years? 30 years? What’s your plan? Do you even have a plan for those 3 months? This week, list your three goals that you want to accomplish within this year. How do you plan to achieve those goals? Maybe it’s time to start planning and stop setting aside goals.

Ask yourself this, if today is my last day on earth, will the people I leave be happy with what I left them with? Are they willing to continue the mark you are leaving them in this world? Or how about this, will your kids fight over a house filled with debt?

101 Financial students will always have their 3 months planned out maybe even up to a year. Goals are lined up to 5 years and more. Why? Because we’re financially educated. With the tools we have we can see what will happen in the future and prepare for it before it even happens.

Every pay day, 50% of that goes to your bills like rent/mortgage, credit card bills, electric, phone, water, etc.. while the other 50% is divided to your daily living expenses like groceries, gas, eating out and some may have a good portion of that 50% that goes to savings. Some may keep at least $100 to go automatically on another checking account to save either for a rainy day, down payment, or retirement.

That was my life prior to 101. I may not have a mortgage but that was how I banked. Life with 101 is so much easier, I pay all my bills on time, I get to do more things with my family and do things I like doing and spend less worrying about money and savings which I get to do both at the same time.
