Pyramiden, Spitsbergen, Svalbard This massive mosaic mural (about 12 feet high by about 24 feet across) depicting life in the polar north dominates the main hall of the canteen. Day 3, Pyramiden, Spitsbergen, Svalbard Inside the Cultural Center, upstairs in a storage room at the far end of the hall, sits this lonely piano. The Northernmost Piano in the World! (It's a thing. They even put it on a magnet.) It hasn't been tuned in 20 years or more, and it's been sitting in sub-freezing temperatures all this time, so it's in really bad shape. Day 2, Longyearbyen, Svalbard Ice Cave Hike The glacier is in the background. It doesn't look super daunting from here. Thankfully, one of the guides brought me to their storage unit so I could borrow some boots, because all I had with me were my running shoes. Unfortunately for me and my giant feet, the largest boots they had were size 11 and I wear either 13 or 14 depending on the shoe. Oh well!
