The Service Above Self Award is Rotary International's highest honor for individual Rotarians. This award recognizes up to 150 Rotarians annually who have who demonstrate their commitment to helping others by volunteering their time and talents with exemplary humanitarian service, in any form and at any level, with an emphasis on personal volunteer efforts and active involvement in helping others through Rotary. In RY 2015-2016, Rotarian William Moraca was among the 150 recipients of the award. He is not only an educator - being Principal of Datal Salvan Elementary School, he is also an inventor who made possible for water downstream to flow upwards using magnetic force. Not only are the school children happy about this, the different families in the area has been very thankful. William also worked on solar power induced electricity for the community. To complement his efforts, the Rotary Club of Midtown General Santos adopted his school and has supported the Nutrition Program for school children; provided school materials and granted the children's Christmas wishes last December. The club also initiated a Rotary Community Corps for Backyard Poultry Project.
