I’m. Kind of at a loss for words. This was terrible news to wake up to. Setsuna is such an important character to me and a huge part of that is how much Tomoriru was able to bring the character to life. The idea that that time is coming to an end terrifies me. Setsuna won’t be Tomoriru in SIF 2. If Niji gets more anime past Nijiyon we’ll have a different Setsuna. Future Setsuna songs and parts of songs aren’t gonna be Tomoriru. I want to do everything I can to support whoever they recast her as when that does happen and I’m certainly glad this is still a few months away so I can mentally prepare for it more but. This is just terrifying.

And to be Tomoriru as well! I don’t know her as a person, I can’t pretend to understand what she’s going through. The good news is nothing’s stopping her from continuinng to voice act if she so desires, and even her musical career could be kept up - we’ve seen her sit in a chair and sing before this won’t stop that. But to lose your breakout role. one you kept up for over 5 years and that I assume she must be attached to, that’s just awful. And more pressingly is just living with EDS. That one mutual is my only source of knowledge so I’m not going to pretend I understand every effect of it or what it truly feels like to live with but I’ve certainly not had the best story painted about it.

Sonic X 34 today, and certainly a consequence of adapting a fairly short game story into a longer form anime story is that it can really accentuate problems from the original medium. Everyone mistaking Shadow for Sonic in SA2 is weird but you can kinda defend it with “oh unclear footage” or the more galaxy brain defence “oh they know it’s not Sonic but they’re pinning the blame on him as a cover-up so nobody learns about Project Shadow” which is more headcanon but still works tbf. In X though we have way more and way clearer footage of obviously not Sonic doing these things and yet even the general public are seeing it and immediately being like “what the fuck that’s definitely Sonic”. In being an adaptation we’ve got an excuse to clean things up and tell a more coherent story but Sonic X really drops the ball on that front here. Episode’s otherwise fine enough I suppose though, Shadow makes a good first impression, there’s a moment where they erroneously draw a Shadow distance shot as clearly Sonic but black
