When the Philistines are preparing to fight Israel, Achish made David his bodyguard for life.

Saul and the Medium at Endor After Samuel died, Saul had expelled all mediums and spiritists from the land. When Saul saw the Philistine army, he was afraid. When the Lord didn't answer him, he went to a medium at Endor. She brought up Samuel, who told Saul that the Lord is with David, and that Saul and his army will die the next day. The medium made Saul some food because he was so shaken.

Achish Sends David Back to Ziklag The Philistine rules disapproved of David because he is Hebrew, even though Achish really approved of him. Neventheless, Achish sent David away from battle.

David Destroys the Amalekites When David and his men got to Ziklag, they realized that the Amalekitess had raided it and taken their wives and others captive. The Lord told David to pursue the enemies. David and 400 men went and, on the way, befriended an Egyptian who fed and led them to the raiding party. David fought them and got everything back and shared his plunder with men who didn't go battle as well.

Saul Takes His Life The Philistines were winning over the Israelites in battle, killing Saul's sons and pursuing him. When Saul was critically wounded, he killed himself, as did his armor-bearer. The Philistines occupied Israelites' towns and cut off Saul's head and fastened his body to the wall of Beth Shan. The bravest men of Jabesh Gilead went to save Saul and his sons' bodies (they burned the bodies and buried their bones). They then fasted for 7 days.
