i think the great thing about being the teacher of an extra-curricular, after-school activity is that i know FOR SURE that my students want to be there. they're not graded; they are forced BY NO MEANS to be in my class. it is completely up to them whether they come to practice, if they participate, if they perform, if they are even involved at all. and that's actually really rewarding to me when i have such great attendance numbers and so many participants in my group because it shows me that they WANT to be there. they want to dance. they want to hang out with each other. they want to hang out with me. they want to be a part of our family. and that's really amazing to see. these kids are obviously intrinsically motivated in one way or another to join Dancer's Delite, and i couldn't be more happy that they chose to dance for me, of all the available dance teachers in the state. :')
