you know i think that we expect so much out of people that we shouldn’t be so surprised when they don’t come through
don’t get too attached to an idea of a person. people will grow. with or without you. i’m not saying that it’s fucked up to fall in love, i’m saying that we can’t force people to stay. people change— as i get older, i see now that some people were meant to expose you to yourself under a lighting that can only further help you discover your purpose
and of course it hurts. you felt untouchable and unable to feel pain when they were at their sweetest. who doesn’t want love? but to face the reality of the nature of love is to be responsible for your own heart.
who doesn’t want to be the object of someone’s longing? to know that you are needed well into the night, doesn’t that sound absolutely pure? the saddest thing is when you finally get hurt. maybe you were right. maybe you were wrong.
we were never taught any different. when will you fall in complete love for the idea of yourself? you are worth it. when you’re feeling lonely, when you’re shoved aside— you have to be the next big thing in your own heart. you have to be the lover that you want for yourself. that’s the only real way to accept the things that has happened to you because love can’t fix anything that you don’t immediately see. this torture, this pain... you have to look in the mirror and drown out the noise. sit yourself down and believe that you will get through this. my heart goes out to those who love with their hearts on their sleeves. you were made for adventure and slow dancing— sometimes that just means that you’ve gotta go on those little expeditions by yourself for yourself
and if you ever have this gut feeling that this is how it should be done. go do it like that. don’t wait until someone gives you a reason to change your plans— why would you? your intuition is more powerful than you’d like to give it credit for. i understand how important love is, but how can you ever feel confident in yourself if you never give yourself enough will power to go on if you can’t even accomplish something as simple as loving yourself first? to put yourself first isn’t always a selfish act. it’s actually a very selfless act. to know yourself so well, to love yourself so much— that you can and will be just fine is someone no longer feels the same way about you. you have to build that skill. you have to start somewhere, why not start with yourself? love yourself inside and out. that’s a great place to start. so the next time your heart breaks, know that you are worth it. and it is their loss. not yours.
