I am a Muslim, alhamdulillah. Yesterday at the stadium, I heard the chant "whoever doesn't jump is a Muslim." I know it was directed at the opposing team and wasn't personal against me, but as a Muslim, it's still disrespectful and intolerable. I understand that not all fans are like that, but to those who chant these things: using a religion as a taunt on the field makes you ignorant and racist. Football is for enjoying and cheering, not for disrespecting people for who they are or what they believe. Lamine reacts a day after a section of the Spanish crowd were heard performing an anti-Muslim chant during their friendly match against Egypt.
In the first ten minutes of Tuesday’s fixture, sections of the the home crowd at Espanyol’s RCDE Stadium were seen jumping and heard chanting: “bote, bote, bote musulman el que no bote”, which translates to “jump, jump, jump, whoever doesn’t jump is a Muslim”. The chant was heard again later in the first half and shortly after half time. VIDEO HERE
