Thank you for your very long answer. I certainly did not expect this and I appreciate it! :) And don“t worry: I don“t want to go into details - just one little addition to my post.
Youāre welcome!
You caught me there: I am usually not that into fantasy (or - because I love the fact that Westeros is a fantasy world - magic stuff unless everyone in this world is able to use it) and so you can imagine how happy I was when I first picked up the books and thought that they would be all about the intrigues and the power struggle between these families while in the end they would have to face a much greater threat (the two magical things: dragons and the Others) and would need to work together somehow to defeat it. Imagine my disappointment when I found out that more and more magic came into the picture and was (in my opinion) divided between Starks and Targaryens.
Well I do think that everyone will have to work together to defeat the Others, if that makes any difference. And I think that other people will be involved in magic. For example, Brienne has a magic sword, and I think Tyrion will ride a dragon.Ā
For me it still feels like the other houses will become minor distractions because the problem will be solved with magic and they can not compete with that. I donĀ“t know if my English is good enough to point out what I mean (hate it when I can not find the right words/phrases XD) but in my opinion it disturbs the balance between the āordinaryā houses and the āmain playersā who got the level up. ;-)
I guess this is where we disagree because I think GRRM writes magic as a tool, rather than the whole point. When magic functions as a tool rather than something very central, it becomes like a sword or a knife or w/e. The magic users and theĀ āordinaryā characters are all still fighting for survival and trying to help others and be true to their ideals, itās just that they go about it in different ways. I donāt think GRRM places undue importance on one over the other. For example, both Arya and Sansa are important and both of them are trying to honor their fatherās teachings, itās just that one uses magical face changing abilities and warging and stuff, and the other doesnāt.Ā
I don“t want my beloved Lannisters to become merely pawns and cannon fodder in the end ;-)
I think that Tyrion is one of the three heads of the dragon, and GRRMās said that Tyrion is his favorite character, so I donāt think this is something to worry about
There would have been so much potential for the houses to work together against dragons (+ their pretentious mother - sorry, but I simply canĀ“t stand Daenerys ;-) ) and ice zombiesā¦
Well, maybe GRRM will surprise me. Meanwhile I guess I will have to root for the Others or the bank of Braavos XD
ā¦youād rather have everyone die and be enslaved by the Others ⦠instead of ⦠rooting for Dany and Jon? And ā¦Ā āpretentiousā? Iām just gonna ⦠walk away ⦠from this part of this conversation because I donāt wanna deal with this.Ā
Please understand that I am asking this as nicely as possible, and with all due respect, but please, I would prefer it if everybody please didnāt send me Dany hate cuz I really donāt wanna deal with it.Ā
