As a journalist I feel bad about how they handled their issues with the article and in the last weeks I've seen other things that I'm just not ok with. I'm not going to share why I'm disappointed because I know a lot of people are going to assume that I am just hating and it's not the case at all. i mean i guess i get it but on the same note with that article you have to understand that it wasn’t like, a rumor about who they’re dating or something silly like that that doesn’t matter. its who they are and it’s being printed in a serious manner for the entirety of canada to see. this is their introduction to the country and it’s full of tons of inaccuracies and just general cringey, lazy writing.
“gay” isn’t interchangeable with pan and bi and if “queer” was going to be used, it should’ve been for them and not steph who’s actually gay. and the article twisted around elise’s words to make it sound like her family was homophobic and she didn’t feel safe coming out, when what she actually said was that she didn’t see bisexuality as an option because she never saw it represented in the media growing up.
idk what else you’re talking about in the last weeks so i dont have anything to say about that but idk, i don’t see anything wrong with them wanting that article to be better because it was a hot mess. this topic is really important right now and i personally think the interviewer/author should have done a little more research and i think the article should have been ran by the pr team before it was posted to do it a little more justice than it was. not only for us as a community but for them as well.
