the night that james saved severus. james acted on pure insict. the moment sirius told him what he had done james never hesitated for a moment and just ran. he barely even remembers telling peter to run and get dumbledore. his mind was solely on trying to get to severus before remus could. and as soon as he could he shifted into prongs as his hoves could carry him faster, in the moment he hadn't cared if anyone had seen him. although as his antlers made it impossible be in that from and go through the willow tree entrance, and it had forced him to shift again. in hindsight he was thankful for that. severus knowing about him being an animagus ... would make this already awful situation worse.
it was only until after he dragged severus to safety, he was able to process anything about it though. and not even really then as dumbledore had arrived soon after. james getting an ear full from the adults as what he had done was dangerous but he could hear even they were relived he had gotten there as fast as he could. and james took there and took it for once just quiet.
when he finally was let go, most of the night was already over. the guilt of remus spending it alone tore at him and it tore at him even more that he felt he could have been faster. maybe he could have done something to stop sirius from telling severus ? that and so many more questions about what he could have done to stop it it all ....
james avoided sirius after. all he needed was to see remus. explain what had happened, in that moment that was all james cared about. it was how remus was doing. it was only after talking to remus, james talked to sirius..... and by that point he was furious.
it was the first and only argument they ever had like that.
