I LOVE THIS SHOT!! LEMME TELL YA WHY!! ... also why are we yelling.
ANYWAYS it all comes down to where the characters are looking and the facial expressions.
Danny is pointing to Linda, looking out into the crowd of people whose lives changed because of his music. Hell, for all he knows, he's the reason those kids who reunited the band exist. He can see all the people who recognize his skill, his LOVE for music. Danny also has that big ass grin, he's so proud, so happy he gets to perform on stage and people WANT to see him perform. His back is turned to his bandmates, which is a little self-centered, but at the same time, the three of them being on stage together isnt about /them/ it's about giving a good performance to the crowd in front of him.
Now, let's look at Bobbi! Who is also looking at Danny! You may be thinking, "Wouldn't it make more sense that he's looking at the spotlight? That's what he wants, the recognition that he didn't get because he plays bass!" Which yeah, that tracks! But the expression on his face isn't jealousy, isn't disdain, it's a fond smile. He's seeing Danny's passion and joy, finding it just as good as getting that attention himself. (Plus, all three are in the spotlight in the shot, so they're ALL getting attention and recognition.)
And finally, Sherman! He's not looking ANYWHERE! Those peepers are shut! His head, however, is angled down. Like he's looking at his drums because he's rusty, hasn't played in YEARS. I mean, he's still in his work clothes for God's sake, he's gonna have some issue getting back into the swing of things. Except! He's got his eyes shut! He knows what he's doing! He's got his rhythm back, and it's muscle memory for him to play the songs him and his bandmates created together. Also, another smile to point out. He's just happy to be there, be making music, and be around his people again.
anyways, yeah! love this shot! peak facial expressions! peak lighting!
