muse a and muse b grew up together in a rural area. both were smart enough to get out and make something of themselves, but muse b was always the bright star. valedictorian, apple of their parents' eye. muse a was smart, played sports and had a good group of friends, but they'd rather hang out underneath the bleachers at football games and play video games into the early hours of the morning. their family had grown up and lived in the same town all their life— despite muse b convincing them that they were worth more, muse a knew it was always fictitious longing. they were friends or each other's first loves (probably both), now muse b is back home to visit and muse a feels the weight of everything that could have been
