'The Lion, however, had aged. I did not know how. It seemed that he did not, either, as he claimed to have no memory of what had happened to him since the destruction of Caliban. Had the Dark Angels kept him in a form of imperfect stasis, for some reason? Had he merely slept for ten thousand years, and this was simply how a primarch’s physiology responded to a hundred centuries?'
Ok, like I've already got an (presumably, haven't quite settled on his chapter, but did had been on a DA kick back when i made him) OC whom is based loosly on Briar Rose (closer translation to the name of the fairytale i grew up on in any case), but didn't quite anticipate to see that as an in-text option for lion himself. (Well, one theory of his, )
Granted, that one fluff section in the codex supplement, where the more or less implicit understanding is that they kept Luther himself alive ever since the Breaking of Caliban, (hm, might actually make him the current oldest still living, non-chaos affiliated, non-dreadnought astartes around [well, one of the oldest, there's that fella whom was in suspended animation, drifting through space, and also the primaris whom had been put in stasis, lived experience in any case]) (until of course Vashtor elects to lead an assault on the Rock, thus providing Luther with the opportunity to make his escape
[pet theory is that Vashtor, or some other individual has him (Luther defied the four tumours way back then, with refusing to deal lion the final blow
[wait just a godsdammed second, does got some parallels to the that exchange of brothers on the Vengeful spirit, doesn't it? (did also hear that luther himself and the breaking of caliban is supposed to mirror the schism of the catholic church), those of em fellas on Luther's side whom would end up known as the Fallen (literal fallen angels even, still annoyed and delighted) sure does point in that direction],
do imagine that they'd be rather favourably inclined towards whomever who would make an offering of off him),
rather then that Luther is off on his own somewhere (do hope that the fluff parts of arks of omen: vashtor might offer some insight into this, but i'm not banking on it)
Granted, he did seem to be intent on lion's forgiveness, whilst I'd imagine it be unlikely he got out under his own power, pherhaps it might be still neat to have him be out and about in the galaxy somewhere, (Lion himself might one of those days cross the great rift, or pherhaps more likely, that the Unforgiven might go about establishing contact with him.
Thing I'm getting at, Azrael could be the one to inform Lion of Luther's fate [also specifically Lion might deduct that they've been keeping him alive under seemingly constant torture]) (would pherhaps enjoy for a reunion between lion and him, but really unlikely that that's going to have a happy ending to it, or at least wouldn't have some grim dark typical flavour to it, pherhaps some manner of noble sacrifice, or even seemingly pointless death)
Of the fallen whom he might pherhaps interact with, only those whom have been part of the officer cadre would be in the know about the precise chain of events at the breaking. In general, would they flock to him, or be rather more content to stick to whatever aim they already had going,
On account of that the Fallen do leave each other signs on how to find one another, and regardless of their allegiance, do and did flock to each other, I'd be inclined towards option two ])
