Prompt: "A woman has had diarrhea for a week. She discovers it contains small amounts of gold and other precious metals."
Jade felt sick, so sick that it was beyond her language to describe. There had been a bug going around the shoe shop she worked for, but nothing like this... She held her stomache as she gently rocked too and fro in her husbands arms. Another twenty four hours had to pass before she thought it time to go to the hospital.
Once there she was admitted without question, one look at her told the staff she was ready to drop on the doorstep. So they shuffled around like ants, chaotic yet organised at the same time. Within minutes a bed had been stripped and relaid ready for her to lie down, she gently protested that she needed to use the bathroom but the staff were too busy too listen.
Jade crushed her eyes closed in pain and concentration, she would never suffer the embarasment of soiling herself, and definetly not infront of strangers! Regretably for all involved, it was too late and the rumbling of Jades gut subtly made the nurses aware of her situation... The bed was changed again, the nurses promising over and over that it was nothing to be embarrassed about, apologising and taking all the blame. Then Jade was left alone for the evening,
It was the next morning that Jade saw her husband, Dan. He sat across the room with his nose buried in a book, she smiled to herself and enjoyed the companiable silence. Until a nurse once again entered the room, this time occumpanied by a doctor. He apologised for having her wait overnight, but explained that they had been preforming tests on the waste. She blushed but listened closely, the doctors tone had worried her from the start.
"Misses Morgan... It seems that a large amount of gold is apparant in your waste. I have to ask, have you been intentinally injesting it?" She shook her head and he nodded, then turned and nodded to the nurse who quickly left into the hall. "I didn't think so, Misses Morgan. The gold in your system is acting like a poison, it's damaging your kidneys and liver especially. I'm afraid you'll need a transpant." A few seconds passed in silence before Jade found her voice.
"D-Do you have any idea where it's coming from?" As if answering her question, the nurse returned into the room, occompanied by a police officer. The Doctor shared a glance with the nurse again before turning back to Jade,
"It's impossible that your body would naturally create these products, so the only other option is that someone is intentinally poisoning you, after a brief investigation... The police found that your husband recently purchased golddust. We believe that this is the source. Jade stared.
Dan stood and met her eyes for a second, then looked away and walked out of the room, with the poilcemans hand firmly planted on one shoulder. Jade stared.
"Why would he?" The nurse hung her head and remained silent, the doctor sighed then handed Jade a pen.
"We'll need your signature on these forms, to say you understand and consent to the surgery."
