I do kinda feel like the one thing kinda missing from Steven Universe's themes of like, redemption, character growth, becoming better and moving past mistakes, etc. is like. Just one episode very clearly putting it out there that becoming a better person and moving past your mistakes, doesn't actually require forgiveness and becoming friends with the people you hurt. Sometimes it's about respecting their desire to live their life without you and then moving on and becoming better anyways
I know the Diamonds relationship with Steven kinda demonstrates this, but it's subtle enough that there's loads of people who's heads that went over starting discourse about it. And when paired with episodes like Barnmates that kinda say the exact opposite (Lapis not forgiving Peridot for, y'know, holding her hostage, was never really portrayed as an option), I feel like it would benefit a lot from just one extra episode on the topic.
Anyways, I like to imagine something like that is a big part of the post-canon Jasper arc. I like the idea of her and Lapis never becoming friends again, and her learning to accept and understand that being a key part of any redemption arc she may have. I just think that's a more interesting and thematically complementary/strengthening way to do Jasper redemption than just "the homeworld trio becomes besties"
