Okay I can’t find a way to put this in the fic I’m writing without it sounding clunky, so I’m just gonna say it here

I don’t think that saying contact is actually a necessary part of making a psychic connection with someone, but it’s more a way of asking for consent. You say contact and the other person says it back, letting you know that it’s okay for you to come into their mind, and not saying it is generally seen as incredibly rude and is just not a thing that is done
