The smoke settles to reveal KIM YEWON, a 20 year old luck-aligned fae of Sunseong. She is an emergency room receptionist who appears to be adept in luck magic --- but like most things in Sunseong, there must be more to her than meets the eye.
FACECLAIM: Kim Yewon (Umji), gfriend
APPEARANCE:
Yewonâs true form appears to be a small bunny with drooping ears. In her true form, sheâd generally small enough to fit into adult palms, typically like this. The image is rather shifty though and tends to appear and reappear in a strange âglitchyâ manner. Yewon keeps her large eyes, rounded face, and rabbit-like mannerisms even as she chooses a different look to take, though sheâs never been able to completely get rid of the fluffy tail just yet. Her face is sprinkled with some light freckles where her whiskers should be.
BIOGRAPHY:
Kim Yewonâs parents broke away from their own parents out of spite, claiming that they were old enough and adult enough to handle a life that wasnât part of any court and that didnât rely on anything besides their own hard work and skill. Although leaving on somewhat decent terms with their own parents, friends, and families, they left together to the city with big dreams of becoming a pair of fae in the âbig cityâ that could handle their own lives. They were in love, or at least they considered themselves to be. The tough times that they faced didnât matter- every long hour spent working and selling charms for cheap were put into the mindset that this was for modernization and building a better future where they could be independent. Sometimes, Yewonâs parents went without a meal, and they hopped from place to place before finally settling down in a tiny house at the outskirts in Dong-Gu. They knew what it meant to grow up in a place of unease and tension, and forced themselves to remain quiet for a while, and because of this, accidentally caused themselves to be quite unknown. It wasnât until the two of them had grown, matured, and started talking business that their names became more recognizable. Every penny spent, every tear shed, every ounce of luck that they contained in their bodies was put forth into investments and a nice business at the end of the city, the border between Dong-Gu and Beok-Gu. When their investments hit off well, all due to some kind of freaky chance, they decided that they were well off in the city, enough to raise a child. Thus, on a rainy summer evening after a long ritual, Kim Yewon was brought to life.
Yewon was tiny and because of this, her parents sheltered her as much as they could. She was born with luck, fed off of the small amounts of luck that existed around their home like when her mom searched for items in the house and suddenly stumbled upon it, or like when her father and his friends played card games together at the dinner table. From time to time, her parents would take her outside of the house that she was holed up in for so long, just to watch silly sports games and gain energy from the luck between teams. Baseball games, surprisingly, yielded the most amount of luck out of other sports. Her parentâs business, which was a simple Trade and Bargain store, was where Yewon gained most energy from. The deals made in the shop were something that she could learn to live off of, but only for so long. Her parents never talked to her about their business or their finances. Yewon would later grow up to learn that they made some very legal and some very not so legal deals and trades at their store.
Until Yewon was able to control her illusion to a decent extent, she was schooled at home by her mom. Naive and too eager to please everyone, Yewon was the target for misuse by her classmates once she finally enrolled. Yewon, still not being able to keep her image focused for so long at times, used to get the ears she accidentally showed pulled in class, and the discouragement and hurt that she felt from her classmates was enough to drive Yewonâs mindset to that of an introvert. She had tried everything to get along well with others, like being nice and sharing her snacks and notes and anything that Yewon had to offer, yet it felt like she was chasing some kind of companionship that was impossible to truly reach. The people around her made her feel like she should have been ashamed for not controlling her illusion better than she could, and Yewon worked hard to focus, usually crying at the end of the night for being unable to hide away her ears and tail. In moments like this, she felt weak and run down. Although being at school had kept her energized, helped her to tap into the luck that her schoolmates came across daily, Yewon tried to hide her status as fae for as long as she could.
In middle school, she gave up the idea of practicing her magic and abilities, ditching it for trying to fit in, despite her parents disapprovement. They were busy, as was she. Instead, Yewon studied and turned her cheek to the stresses of the world, the shady deals that her parents made, and anything that brought her back into that state of feeling like the worst, most unlucky fae to ever exist. She has a firm belief that everyoneâs world could be happier if they didnât listen to any bad news. As a teenager, Yewon was rather shy and because she was so focused on trying to ignore her roots, ran into problems left and right. Growing up as a teenager, sheâd managed to put all of her practice into her illusion, though there were few things that she couldnât quite hide completely. It was enough to make her happy, at least. In high school, she had very little friends and immediately following graduation, left the house in order to âfind herselfâ in a way. Her parents disapproved yet still helped her to find a tiny place in Beok-Gu.
Currently, Yewon works as an emergency room receptionist at the local hospital there, finding that this is the best place to encounter luck. Some people come in, lucky to even be alive, and others leave lucky to have recovered so well. Sheâs only recently begun to take interest in her abilities again, although her skills are incredibly lame due to how sheâd tried to suppress them in her childhood. She hardly uses her abilities, and when Yewon is in a pinch and needs to use them, she gets rather frustrated after the fact, just because of how disappointed she is with the effectiveness and energy it takes to use them. Yewon finds herself spending money on charms from time to time in order to help her uptake of luck, and she wears them like bracelets and anklets on her daily outfits. She frequents stores run by witches in search of better charms and pendants. In addition, Yewon is in constant search of a mentor to help her understand herself and regain her personal identity as fae which sheâd taught herself not to enjoy for so long.
Luck is only a companion to life, and people contain and exhibit more luck than they are aware of. Yewon feels like her little left foot is what keeps her stepping closer to being the luckiest fae around.
CHARACTERIZATION:
Yewon has a young soul in comparison to some of the fae that she grew up around, and because of that, contains a childish ignorance and vanity. She has a tendency to trust too many, and trust too easily. Yewon has constantly attempted to get the most out of her life, and purposely turns a cheek to things in order to pretend that they donât exist. Sheâs self centered, yet hardly considers that to be a bad thing. One could compare Yewon to that of a wandering soul whose only goal is to enjoy life and live freely. When in a pinch, Yewon is a bit of a crybaby and will reach out for help from whoeverâs nearest without considering consequences of her actions. Although she is a bit of a fool, Yewon makes up for her ignorance with a heart filled with compassion. The biggest fault in her personality tends to be her need for dependency and also her unrelenting amounts of empathy. Yewon is the type to consistently offer her (lame and sometimes useless) help to those in need. Sheâs generally a sweet person, although if she doesnât start the conversation herself, she remains shy.
Her workplace requires her to attempt to be a decent âadultâ and be able to handle phone calls and be able to talk to patients that come in. Yewon is capable of handling herself in situations where she needs to be professional and accurately directs patients to where they need to be. Much of her time is spent taking calls, answering emails, and filing away papers. Sheâs hardworking, even if she does go home to complain about having to work, at the end of the day. When Yewon is especially frustrated, she has a habit of scrunching up her nose, and when she was younger, stomping her foot or tapping it excessively to the point of purposely attempting to annoy whoever had gotten her in that bad mood.
SPECIALTIES:
Fae Innate Abilities - Rank 0 (0pts)
Luck Magic - Rank 1 (20pts)
Collection - To reserve pieces of the luck that are encounters in oneâs own life or experiences from the people around them. This method of âcollectingâ luck for personal benefit is similar to tapping into the luck rather than taking it all from the giver. This ability doesnât require much focus and usually comes as an afterthought. For example, if someone were to skateboard in front and not fall off their board when getting a wheel caught in the sidewalk, experiencing the lack of the fall despite the fact that it should have happened is enough to tap into the luck and store it in a âreserve.â
Redistribution - To redistribute luck by making a personâs luck percentage increase by 7%. For example, a person who is gambling and wishes for a die to land on an even number has a 50% original chance of rolling it. When affected by Redistribution, the person will have a 57% chance of rolling an even number, despite the original probability. The increase is 7% no matter the situation.
Minor Ward - Reflect (5pts) - Minor spell reflect to ease the very naive Yewonâs paranoia.
Major Ward - Protection (10pts) - Protection against harmful magic (general). The ward of protection works to subdue physical harm that would have come as a result from magic. Its user might still feel pain and receive injuries, though the severity of physical harm is lowered.
