Falls in love at the drop of her ruffle-brimmed hat. Sweeter than a maraschino cherry. Has a long-distance girlfriend in Baga o Fruto da Vila, Brazil -- Cerejinha -- and sends her juicy care-packages every week. Her pet goose, Gooseberry, is, obviously, the only troublemaker in Berryland.

She grows up, a baby no more, and she needs nothing to be given to her by others. It takes a lifetime (and some inspiration from beloved Figboot) but she finds her name. Her self. She is Berryland’s rarest jewel, multilayered and subtle and sacred. (And, like her namesake, there’s a secret sting at her core.)

After her tenure as the mayor of Banana Boro, she sets aside political ambition -- at least for a while -- to complete a second doctorate (utility engineering, to complement her structural engineering degree). The Boro is better for her choice to live there, and so is all of Berryland. When the earth quakes like custard or the sea overflows like ice cream melting over the edge of its cone, Banana Candy is the positive, energetic leader Berrykins trust.
