Mike- his family line has always been the personal guard of the royal family, they bear the royal insignia when the rest of the guard aren't allowed. When he is 5 he had run away and found a small hole in the palace walls and found Will on the other side, Will had run away from his father and they both became each other's first friend and they would meet up as much as possible until a few years later when the hole was found and patched up
Lucas - his grandfather served honorably enough in a war long past so the royals had invited him to live on palace grounds and work for them, Lucas' father also grew up to work in the royal guard and Lucas was raised on palace grounds with Mike. They trained together growing up
Dustin - his father was an entertainer for the royal family and his mother was a super smart noble girl that lived on palace grounds. He grew up emulating his father and learning from his mother. When he is ten his father is exiled and no one tells him why because they think he is too young. While asking around/investigating he becomes friends with Lucas and Mike.
Will - grew up in the village, stricken with poverty that was hoarded by the palace/royals. He lived with his brother and his parents. After his dad left the village looked down on his mother as she refused to say what happened/why Lonnie left. After Hop retires Joyce reconnects with him and they all move into the enchanted forest. The family rarely show their faces in the village, only really showing up once a month to grab groceries, and even then it's Joyce or Hop that do leading to a myriad of speculation from the village.
El- grew up in the enchanted forest near the village, everyone rumours it's haunted so no one goes in. Eventually Hop finds her (after he retires from the royal guard and goes back to his cabin which was built next to the enchanted forest but has since been swallowed into the forest) and he takes her in.
Max - moves into the village after her mother marries and her new stepdad gets a job near/in the palace. She runs into Lucas while she is wandering and he is going with his dad to interrogate someone suspected of some crime (really not important) a few days after that she runs into Will they talk a bit and Will says she would get along with his sister and he invites her into the enchanted forest to meet her. Max ends up dragging El into the village and takes her shopping and to all the best hang out spots.
The 'adventure' starts when Mike gets wind of some of the rumours surrounding the Byers and convinces himself that Will is possessed by the enchanted forest and needs saving. He takes his friends Dustin and Lucas and convinces them to run away from the palace. Lucas wants to try and find Max and Dustin harbors mixed feelings towards the royal family after his father was exiled so he is so down to leave.
The boys get lost in the forest and El finds them... Anyways that's as far as I've thought.
It ends with the six of them adventuring together and they do different missions and stuff :D
Oh also my DND knowledge is minimal but:
Mike - Paladin
Lucas - Ranger
Dustin - Bard (or Bard/artificer that would be cool but idk)
Will - Cleric/Sorcerer (multi class because he's cool like that)
El - Sorcerer/Mage (she was originally a sorcerer but found out she could learn spells from books/scrolls while adventuring)
Max - Rogue (cus Zoomer ain't a class and rogues rely on dex which is effectively movement if you dumb it down and squint)
