Something I think people miss about Mace Windu is that his job is to play devil’s advocate. Even if he doesn’t personally believe what he’s saying.
You need someone to raise the other side of any decision, and as the most senior member after Yoda, that weight has to come from him. It’s a thankless job, but it ensures that all areas and sides are considered.
We have a saying that one who knows all sides of an argument can come to the best conclusion.
Mace’s job is to ensure that happens. Even if it’s to his own detriment in the eyes of others.
