i will try to be as clear and open as i can about the purpose of this blog.
i have a lot of ideas and impulses, but not enough time, energy, and willpower. at least not consistently. my main roleplays are @helraising and @spectracle, i take pride in how i write them, set up their blogs, characterise them, research for them, read and reread and analyse their comics, and so on. you are more than welcome to judge my skills as a roleplayer - understanding source material and communicating them to other people, writing, organising my blogs, communicating outside of roleplay with my partners, etc. - from them.

this blog will be wildly inconsistent in terms of everything. i won't always be able to do in-depth research of all the characters i'm interested in and how i characterise them, but i still want to come here and fool around, really, play dolls, play with my characters, experiment, do trials and errors, pick up and drop characters or projects as i feel like it, create ocs at the drop of a hat and kick them to the dollbox when i'm done, and even try to test the waters by translating aspects of my original novel projects into roleplays.
i am a perfectionist to a flaw, i overthink a lot, i feel bad when i'm unable to keep up with conversations and i feel worse if my replies are not good enough, and i deal with debilitating anxiety, sporadic depressive episodes. and a host of chronic illnesses. i have a lot of hobbies, my main interest at the moment is marvel & dc comics, and even reading for just one character can be quite the commitment. i'm also a university student pursuing computer science engineering, and have various commitments going on in real life. i am not selective in who i befriend or want to keep in touch with, and so, i have a lot of friendships and relationships online and irl that i want to try and give my time and love to. i don't want you to take pity on me or anything, i'm just trying to paint a picture of my circumstances as openly as possible so you can understand that i'm not ignoring you, devaluing you, or anything of that sort.
this isn't a hard or fast rule, but i am not exactly brave to have too many roleplay partners or meet new people on this blog; i'd feel more comfortable if you interact with me on my huntress and/or dazzler roleplays instead. although i am aware i'm here to fool around, i still worry about the impression i might make; having fun doesn't mean i don't treat my roleplay partners with respect to them and to their writings. nevertheless, i do enjoy getting to know people, new or long known; i very much enjoy the social, collaborative, "playing dolls" aspect of roleplay, especially when my social battery is good enough and i can be present.
i fully understand the importance of critical analysis and engaging with source material and adequate research and delivery of themes and the other things that make writings work; these are things i am passionate about and enjoy doing. however, on this blog, it's not possible to devote the same labour to every character i foster, so my portrayals of them may be inconsistent at best and inaccurate at worst. i am so sorry in advance to that; if you do not like how i portray a character, please know there are plenty of fishes in the sea. take anything i write here about any canon material with a grain of salt.
my activity and replies here will be sporadic; i'll drop threads and start new ones precariously. my style leans more towards spontaneous roleplay threads than plotting out in-depth usually.
recurringcast is the theme of this blog here. plenty of characters will come and go, usually to act as a supporting character more than anything else. if i get attached to any of them strongly enough, i'll likely give them their own main blog and polish their writings.
for you? well, i consider myself chill for the most part. you never have to worry about replies with me or anything of the like. if you're good, i'm good. i don't vaguepost anybody or ignore anybody on purpose. if i have any issue with you, i'll try to talk to you or work through my feelings and not make it your problem. communication is key, but even on the days when communication is hard, i'll still try to show you grace and understanding, and i'll own up for when i do fuck up, regardless of my intent or ignorance. my philosophy about roleplay is that it's supposed to a hobby, and at the same time, a lot of emotional sentiment and social aspects are attached to it; navigating things can be very tricky. i want to show respect to you as a person, to your characters and the passion you have for them, and i also want to manage my plate, ambitions, feelings, and responsibilities to the best of my ability.

First things first, a couple of notes about my particular portrayal:
My portrayal of Jack draws on both movie & book canon, primarily the trilogy and Ann Crispin’s The Price of Freedom, the latter of which concerns Jack’s past, although I do borrow sparingly from other sources across extended canon. He is much more than the witty rogue with a fondness for rum that he is often dismissed as; I therefore ask that you please respect this and my reasons for being picky when it comes to incorporating certain ‘canon’ established in Dead Men Tell No Tales in particular.
I have been writing Jack on this blog for more than seven years now. In that time, I have developed him far beyond his canon, and have covered a lot of ground in terms of interactions. In particular, having written a reply to many a tavern starter over the years, I can no longer guarantee that my muse will spark into life if you write me a generic greeter starter without any prior plotting beforehand. This isn’t to say that I won’t reply to one, only to point out that you may wait a while for a reply and therefore it is much better to come to me to plot out something if you’re ever unsure of the sort of starter to throw my way.
Essentially, communication is the key! And after all this time, plotted dynamics and threads are far more likely to convince Jack’s muse into sticking beyond only a few replies, so just be aware of this.
002. Private / Selective
This blog is private and selective, meaning that I only write with mutuals for my own state of mind. I work and have a busy life outside of tumblr which takes priority, so I cannot write with everyone. I also do sometimes practice exclusivity, although I tend to be very picky about this: any portrayal to which I am mains or exclusive is listed in that tab to the left of this page.
003. Drama / Tumblr Politics
I do not care to see call out posts or any other kind of drama. I will unfollow and potentially block if I see it on my dash: I am here to write, not to engage in tumblr politics.
004. Shipping
I am multiship and Jack is bisexual, but both mun and muse are picky when it comes to shipping. Just because Jack is promiscuous does not necessarily mean that he will emotionally invest or jump into bed with just anyone. He is, however, a huge flirt, but conversely please do not assume that this is an attempt to force a ship on you and your muse. My son just loves to turn on the charm.
005. General Etiquette
Usual Tumblr etiquette applies. Please don’t godmod, don’t rush me on replies as I am very slow, please make sure meme replies are transferred over to a new post etc etc. Icons were made, although not capped by me, so please do not take them.
006. Mature Content / Triggers
NSFW may appear from time to time, as well as certain dark topics considering that Jack is a pirate and a dangerous individual. I do not have any triggers myself, but I will certainly try to tag anything particularly sensitive that may appear on this blog. As for smut, I write it pretty infrequently but only with partners I’m close to on an out of character level.

✦ i use x-kit rewritten to trim reblogs on roleplay threads whenever i am able to [ these posts are tagged #*trimmed - otherwise, they are tagged as #*long threads ] — as well as for checking mutuals, filtering posts and blogs, and so on. this may affect my notifications and what i see on my dashboard.
✦ it’s not necessary for you to use x-kit or always trim your posts, that’s totally up-to you.
✦ i also do not care how “aesthetic” you are, roleplaying is meant to be for fun and a creative hobby, it’s not a job or a chore and it should not be treated as such. in the same vein, i do not care for a roleplay community that’s elitist, exclusionary, gatekeeping, unwelcoming, or judgemental.
✦ please keep in mind that my activity levels and the timing of my responses, both in roleplay and out of roleplay, on any platform, will be slow for the most part, sporadic at best. frequent communication is not my strong suit, i often miss notifications, or don’t have the time, energy, opportunity, or ability to reply to everything in time. this is due to the fact that i am a human being and there are twenty four hours in a day.
✦ you don’t ever have to worry about late replies or the like. i understand that people are busy or simply unable to reply for whatever reason, digital communication being instantaneous doesn’t mean replies have to be instant, too. all that i ask is that you respect my effort when you do reply (aka: reading what i wrote, giving me something to work with - non dry replies, so to speak; acknowledging me or letting me know you’ll circle back to me later on) — it becomes frustrating, personally, when i keep on sending out multiple prompts, starters, messages, and so on, and i get no acknowledgement (it may be as simple as “thank you, i’ll circle back to you later”) for a long while.
✦ i try to provide heads up, both via dash posts and by messaging individual rp partners, about my replying speeds and whatnot, if i’ll be late to write/reply, if i want to drop threads or ships, and so on, whenever i am able to.
✦ i may be online and still not reply; i may reply to other people; i may be doing non-roleplaying projects; i may be able to communicate with you in some ways and not others. please understand that writing, replying to messages, and all these aforementioned activities are different tasks with varying levels of entry friction, energy requirements, and time-consuming. i also have the right to do things in the sequence i like.
✦ i am not the type of person who ignores people on purpose by withholding replies or via silent treatment, nor do i engage in passive aggression to communicate my discomfort, nor do i enjoy silently suffering on my own accounts just to be polite and talking to people i don’t like talking to. life is short, i want to lead it meaningfully for myself and the people i care about. i may not know you personally, but i believe in mutual respect and honesty; if i follow you, am mutuals with you, interacting with you in some way — it means i want you around, and i intend to write with you if we have yet to or haven’t written in a while.
✦ i am intentional about my mutualship and my dashboard curation. if i do not follow you back, it’s likely because i have no idea how our muses would interact. if i unfollow or soft-block you, it’s usually to shorten my dashboard and not maintaining mutualship with people i don’t interact with, in or out of roleplay, or it may have been a platform glitch, but it does not mean that i’m never open to the possibility of becoming mutuals again. i also hard-block sometimes for my own comfort; i follow the tumblr-approved culture of blocking liberally, as opposed to starting conflicts, controlling how other people run their blogs and what they post, and so on. i also like following people i consider my friends and enjoy seeing on my dashboard regardless. i also try to keep in mind if our muses would mesh in roleplay; antagonistic dynamics may be fun, but it may get tedious fast if our muses inherently dislike each other or avoid each other always, for example.
✦ i generally don’t roleplay outside of tumblr, as it becomes confusing to maintain too many platforms, but i am occasionally open to roleplaying in one-on-one discord servers.
✦ when it comes to formatting, i try to match what my rp partners do, except i always use the default text size for tumblr posts; large, dense chunks of text written in the small size makes it hard for me to read it, but it’s not a deal-breaker by any means, it’s up to you how you format your posts.
✦ i generally ask of you to tag your posts, especially those that are nsfw or suggestive in nature, both in and out of roleplay. i’m not a prude, it’s just that filtering via vanilla tumblr or any extensions can only be effective so long the posts are tagged. i don’t care what tags you use as long as you use one i can easily filter, it’s as simple as that. if you don’t tag or if your blog is primarily focused on smut, good for you, i might not follow as i personally am not always in the mood for penning romantic or sexually charged roleplays.
✦ i like posting on the dash and talking out of roleplay, especially to get to know my roleplay partners and their muses better, as well as to have fun with my friends or by myself. i generally tag these posts with #*oorp, #*personal, or #*tbd, if you’d like to not see those.
✦ i send out prompts generously when i remember to do so; it is not an intention to spam you or seek too many threads, i like to provide options, and you are more than welcome to keep those asks for rainy days, since i generally don’t remember when i exactly have sent certain asks.
✦ my personal squick is that i do not like receiving too many “x liked your post” notifications from the same blog in a row, repitition and spam bother me in general, but that one is a personal source of discomfort; by extension, i do not like when people ‘likes’ my negative/vent posts, it’s not something i find comforting even if other people do. i usually am more open to and comfortable with replies or dms. likes are fine when i explicitly solicit them, like roleplay calls, or when you like sparingly and not too many in a row - that messes up my notifications, i’m sorry.
✦ i am open to shipping and my muses are generally multi-ship unless stated otherwise. i try to steer clear of shipping impulsively, shipping without interacting, shipping without substance, or shipping just because. i am a lesbian, and i generally prioritise / prefer sapphic ships for my sapphic muses, i.e., ships centered around women or nonbinary characters. i am open to shipping with male characters with my muses who still date men, of course. please be respectful of my muses who identify as lesbians, aro-ace, and so on; even if my muses are bisexual, it does not necessarily mean ships will be guaranteed.
✦ i am more selective when it comes to writing smut; shipping with me does not immediately mean i am going to write smut with you. in general, please do not coerce or obligate me to write romantic or sexual threads, it’s something i need to be in the right mindset for, it’s not the same as writing platonic or regular threads for me.
✦ when i ship with canon muses, i do not duplicate that ship while it’s still ongoing. for example, if i ship dazzler with x’s huntress, i will not write dazzler romantically with another huntress, nor will i roleplay huntress and ship with a dazzler, so long i’m still shipping with x. if the ship is dropped, then i am open to the possibility again.
✦ i don’t do exclusives, affiliates, mains, what have you, at all. i respect my favourite blogs by action (talking, writing, etc), i don’t like tethering down my portrayal in general. you’re welcome to reference my muses in your other threads and i’m happy to do the same, but i just don’t practice that or develop portrayals together with other people as a personal preference; i also don’t do the thing of mentioning other blogs in my pinned, so i feel it’d be one-sided if you do that for me but i don’t return the favour?
✦ i am duplicate friendly, i am open to write with more than one rp of the same canon character as no two portrayals are the same, but once again, i try to be meaningful about it; for example, i can write with three rogue rps, it becomes difficult to write with ten rogue rps from the same one blog. in these cases, i try to generally offer my other rp muses if i want to roleplay with someone to balance things out and provide variety. i also am willing to roleplay with people who write the same canon characters as me, i love the double spider-men meme bit.
✦ if you are a multi-muse or you have multiple rp blogs, it generally helps me a lot if you narrow down the options by letting me know which muses you have high priority for, or which muses of yours you’d like for my muses to interact with. when i follow multi-muse blogs, i generally do so with the intention to write with several of your muses at least, both original and canon characters.
✦ as someone who strives for intersectional feminism, i do not tolerate misogyny, classism, ableism, racism, anti-queer sentiment, zionist, pro-ai sentiment, anti-intellectualism, and other such hateful instances or forms of prejudice both in and out of roleplay. if my muses are sexualised, objectified, stereotyped, unfairly labelled, sexually harassed, or anything of the like, it’s a deal-breaker for me. by extension, i will not interact with characters and/or writers who exhibit concerning beliefs or behaviours towards marginalised communities (including women) even if these are not directly aimed at me or my muses. by extension, i don’t want to be approached with non-platonic interactions myself either, thanks.
✦ if your muse canonically has a history of being nazi affiliated or having committed sexual assault, pedophilia, abuse, etc., i am not likely to interact at all even if you’ve personally retconned it out of your portrayal — this especially applies to a lot of male or villain characters in marvel and dc comics, my god. long story short, i focus on writing with both people and characters who i feel comfortable with. nuances still apply, of course; i try to judge it on a case-by-case basis.
✦ i generally don’t feel very concerned about live-action face-claims for the most part. nuances and exceptions still apply, of course.
✦ MUN =/= MUSE. my feelings towards your characters and my muses’ words or behaviours towards them aren’t necessarily the same; i also do not endorse, justify, or excuse my muses’ actions for the most part. i believe in multi-dimensional writing, nuances, storytelling, and letting people be people.
✦ if you don’t want to interact with me or if you’d like me to stop doing something or do something differently, it’s generally preferred you let me know directly and privately. if i’m blocked or soft-blocked by a former mutual, i may try to want to know why and/or check if it’s on purpose, otherwise it’s all good.
✦ i prefer to be mutuals-only, exceptions may be made for side-blog roleplays. when it comes to personal blogs, i generally prefer if my friends interact with me. i don’t prefer non-mutuals interacting with my posts out of the blue.
✦ i try to tag as reasonably as i can, and i am open to tagging certain tags if i’m asked by a mutual.
✦ i prefer to write in all small-caps and use british english spelling; if you’d like for me to translate when my muses use a different language, or clarify contexts in my writing, i’m more than happy to do so.
✦ i try to read people’s full pages — dossiers, guidelines, muse lists, so on — and blogs before i interact, write, or plot with them, so that i have a good understanding of their muses and their preferences; i generally would prefer for you to do the same for me, as i do not like for uncharacteristic or stereotypical things to be projected on my muses, thank you. if there’s anything you’re unsure of, i’m happy to clarify or answer questions via asks or messages.
✦ i am the most familiar with the comics of dc and marvel, and a handful of fandoms/media here and there. i will respect your portrayal and blog information first, and i am open to crossovers so long i feel our muses are compatible or able to interact in some way.
✦ i personally prefer crossovers in the style of merging universes (i.e., saying that earth 616 and prime earth exist in the same universe), isekai’ing (i.e., my muse exists as they are, but i have them sent into your muses’ world by some means, and vice versa), and staying ambiguous about the setting and focusing on character dynamics; i personally don’t create separate verses for my muses and i don’t quite care about worldbuilding in roleplay (as in, discussing the logistics of how they met), i like to be more free, creatively liberal, and spontaneously going with the flow in these cases, especially since marvel and dc are both sandbox universes that are extremely crossover-friendly. that said, i don’t mind if your preferences are different, you are both allowed to write marvel/dc specific verses for your muses to interact with me — or write your muse as they are, i’m happy to venture out of my comfort zone and take writing challenges, usually.
✦ as for plotting dynamics, i can’t exactly predict how my muses would like yours or mesh with yours without them actually interacting in roleplay first, my muses are very responsive and nuances, like tone delivery or circumstances, matter for how a dynamic would pan out. that said, i’m okay with our muses knowing of each other beforehand at the very least, or having some sort of pre-established interactions for certain threads. we can also jump between timelines, like roleplaying our muses’ first meeting, or roleplaying our muses when they’ve grown old together in another thread, and so on.
✦ i am more interaction-forward than plotting-focused, but we can talk here and there out of roleplay to be on the same page, as well as plot out starters or threads.
✦ i am a multi-threader in general, i admittedly find it easier to start new projects than to keep up with it long term. we can always revisit plots from old threads in fresh new threads, and so on.
✦ for communication, you may reach me via tumblr dms on a blog i’m active on, or discord (which i give to mutuals who ask for it).
✦ i always publish asks that get sent publicly with few exceptions when necessary; no anon ever, and i don’t turn on the media option for my inbox unless it’s necessary.
✦ i am open to being tagged in dash games, and i generally tag people when i do them. let me know if this is something you don’t want to participate in, at all.
✦ i am happy to recommend my mutuals to one another when i’ve known them and written them for a while, since i generally like for my friends as well as roleplayers i feel would mesh well to meet each other, too.
✦ i roleplay smut on side-blogs; you can reply from your main or your own side-blog, i don’t mind either way, so long you tag your replies appropriately and use the cut/read-more feature when needed. i mostly if not always prefer sapphic +18 threads between adult characters who are shipped, with rp partners i feel comfortable and trust. please ask and check with me before initiating any sort of mature discussions, in or out of roleplay. i delete asks or drop smut threads i lose interest for, and i do not force my rp partners for replies, either. i don’t care for sinday. i’m not a prude, i just have clinical depression and care more about playing dolls with characters who make me happy and having fun with my close mutuals than smut without subtance. i say all this because i like to feel safe and happy on my own rp blogs and keeping this a sustainable hobby long-term.
✦ for smut threads, i prefer constant communication out of roleplay so that we’re on the same page about our muses’ compatibility, consent, and comfort. i generally write my sapphic muses as a top-verse, open-minded to kink exploration and communication, and focused towards banter, affection, after-care, and so on. there are certain tropes i like in smut, a la ao3 tags, and it generally does depend on the specific pairing.
✦ some things i won’t write in smut (and in general): nonconsensual or dubious consent, ageplay, raceplay, knifeplay, anything to do with certain bodily fluids, group sex, cheating, etc. i’m not entirely opposed to bdsm or roleplaying, but it’s not something i really care for.
✦ i also ask you to tag the urls of blogs when you reblog from them or answer asks for them, as the blocking function on tumblr is subpar and moody.
✦ i try to write my characters as true to their nature as possible, i will not downplay or change their traits or make them “likeable” for the sake of speeding up or forcing emotional closeness or dynamics. my muses not being friendly or whatever is not a personal affront, nor does it mean that our muses will never be friends.

i have original characters that i ship with (or are connected to) canon characters. if i were to interact with someone who writes for one of those characters, i would not expect them to acknowledge that. i will not push my funky little ships onto your interpretation! if you want?? we could write together for one of these relationships but?? im not really seeking it out or anything.
the same goes for canon relationships between characters. im not gonna expect you to match my interp of a dynamic unless you're comfortable with it.

though i will say that i have a couple characters written by friends that i consider canon for my interpretation of a canon character. specifically, helena bertinelli as written by sans and damian wayne al ghul as written by monarch.
don't worry about matching length! i tend to be pretty wordy and i don't expect everyone to match that energy every time. in conjuction with that, i prefer doing longer, more descriptive threads. keeping things short is difficult for me. yes it is annoying.
while nsfw topics will come up, i'm not interested in roleplaying smut. this is one of my very few HARD boundaries. please do not try and force a thread in that direction or pressure me about it; i will drop the thread and block you immediately.
threads can head towards smut but i will want to do a time skip or fade to black type scene change.
i'm open to plot nsfw stuff over like messages or something just be chill i guess?
i try to do pretty in-depth research before i incorporate something into my writing but im not infallible. sometimes im gonna get something wrong or im not gonna be as aware of their source material but i'm gonna do my best.
sensitive / heavy / potentially triggering themes will be featured on this account. warnings will be provided accordingly and the content will be hidden under a readmore (vague implications or references may not be tagged, but i'll use my best judgement on what i think is too much). and this being said, i would prefer only 18+ people interact with this account.
