figured it'd be fun to mention why I've written my lore so clown demons hatch from eggs lmao

it'd be similar to how she hears bones and their desires but this would relate purely to the living

her eyes would turn entirely gold and you'd be able to see any past memory of yours through her eyes, letting others relive them or properly recall what they've thought they'd forgotten

it'd only work as long as she maintains eye contact without her glasses though which would be an incredibly rare thing for her to allow/offer to others

so to recap for those who don't know Vertebrae is the aftermath of two minds fighting for control over one body those being Mr. Trickster the demon clown and Vermin the sentient computer virus

Mr. Trickster is just a demon he's been around for centuries and he obtained the blessing of La Muerte for healing and immortality

Vermin is a downloaded personality interface that whose original mind and memories came from a human who went by Squeaks. Vermin infected Mr. Trickster and that's how they eventually became Vertebrae.

Squeaks is the key part I'm tying the connection to. Squeaks is one of La Muerte's human descendants whose mind found a way to have an immortal body

La Murete in my version didn't have immortal children because she's death. She wants her family to experience death and to be with her.

But now one of her blood has found themselves in a body that can't die, so La Muerte is now at a crossroad.

Let Vertebrae continue and eventually crown her a goddess or put an end to her to have her soul rejoin the rest of the family in the land of the dead.

She can go either route but currently is steering toward keeping Vertebrae alive simply cause she finds herself enjoying her company and it's altering her views on her own position as death.

Vertebrae's new titling should she become a goddess would be of Reincarnation/Life. Allowing souls who want to live again another chance rather than leaving them in the land of the dead.

La Muerte does not enjoy the thought of losing her souls but from the few glimpses she's seen of souls returning to the husks Vertebrae creates she realizes that some do greatly desire to walk the land of the living once more.

So there's a possibility she'll allow Vertebrae to fully reincarnate souls so she can find joy in her family so that later when they die again La Muerte can accept them back and begin the process a new should the soul wish for it.

Which is why I'm glad I decided to sneak in the shade for Vertebrae's story. I was wondering what I'd do to include a Pancreas alt into her story or if I even should and boom inspiration in the form of her literal freaking shadow.

Obvi the shade doesn't love Vertebrae like the twins love Vermin nor how Pancreas loves his partner

but it doesn't need too, it can just enjoy being around her and being her loyal companion. Her shadow. Constantly by her side and helping her with her goals just because it enjoys seeing her happy.
