he releases his hold on her arm as quickly as he’d taken it, making quick distance now that they stand on the other side of thorny barrier. his nerves still burn, his words still hot and pointed; “oh, and what were you going to do, then?” eyebrows raise, hands pocketed in jacket as he meets thistle for thorn. “run at him head on? die as well?” eyebrows set in a stern line; she doesn’t deserve a lecture. “play in these games a little longer, you’ll get it’s not so simple.” he drops his gaze, growing guilt sitting uncomfortably behind still-aching teeth. “...there was nothing you could do.”
