Hi! So I’m studying to get my GED and expect college-level scores after taking official practice tests and I’m looking to go straight to a 4 year university. Will I need anything other than a GED to do that?
Wow, nice work! When you fill out college applications, you’ll submit your GED scores in the place of a high school transcript. You’ll need to request a transcript through the GED website. Some colleges may also want your high school transcript, which you’ll need to request from your high school.
You may want to use your personal statement to explain why you got your GED instead of a high school diploma. On your application, also include any activities you might have done like working, volunteering, or caring for a family member. If you haven’t taken the ACT/SAT, here are resources to help you find colleges that don’t require those scores. Be mindful also that some colleges want a letter of recommendation from an adult who can speak to your academic abilities. Contact the college’s office of admissions ASAP if you have any questions about application materials. Finally, don’t forget about FAFSA if you’re a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
Best of luck, and keep up the good work!
