hey here are a couple things abt my portrayal of carver that are probably good for folks to know!
- he doesnât make it very commonly known that heâs the younger brother of the champion of kirkwall, although he resembles both of his siblings and mother very strongly. he usually just goes by âcarverâ, rather than âhawkeâ. in his later years he doesnât consider himself to be in their shadow as much, people do have a tendency of underestimating him or wanting to know hawke more than they do him, which is very emotionally exhausting for him.
- all of carverâs emotions run high. if heâs sad, he can be sad for days. if heâs angry, it takes a lot of effort to calm down. if heâs happy, itâs hard to ruin his good mood. heâs also petty. he strikes low blows and doesnât feel shame for it. growing up, more often than not he was sticking up for bethany and on occasion, hawke, so he knows what to say to fuck people up.
- bethanyâs death ruined him. most of his nightmares, even after becoming a warden, revolve around her. in every meaning of the words, they were best friends and going without her all of a sudden is like losing a limb. he grieves for years, and doesnât really start to âget over itâ until heâs inducted into the wardens and given a purpose.
- carver struggles quite a bit with self image (physically and mentally) as well as depression. he doesnât talk about it, and doesnât plan on talking about it.
- carver loses his lower left leg around the time the inquisition is just starting to dig its heels in the dirt. he has a prosthetic, but is still learning how to use it and has chronic pain issues. he walks with a limp.Â
- if the inquisitor leaves hawke in the fade, the chance that carver will ever warm up to them even slightly is low as fuck. a part of him believes hawke is somehow alive, but they were the last true family heâs had, and heâs never going to get over the fact heâs well and truly alone now.
