he’s disoriented , the recent battle a blur . something integral is gone ( crimson burns belonging to no one , now ) & he knows . even if the battle is a blur , he knows the end . he should be dead , but he isn’t . he should be with his servant , but he isn’t . truly , he had been so tragically unprepared for a war like this — this was not a war where went to defend his homeland . this was something of human sin . this was a war where everyone went to die , & yet once again he lived . 

he’d entered the war with ghosts by his side & now it ended just the same . was it a ghost who was speaking to him ? 

during his time as a student in the association , he managed to master most of the branches of magecraft , save policies , archaeology , & modern magecraft ,  the latter not yet existing . he was given the rank of brand ... & soon after vanished from the association , not wanting to deal with the politics or brutality of the mage world . after doing what he could to abandon the majority of mage society , he does his best not to be found by anyone he doesn’t want to find him ... which is most mages . he lives in a forest home , where he prefers to do his research in peace & quiet .

yes, atlas knows that his life & atram’s are miracles ; two beings of great power who had a predisposition to absolute idiocy — in their own ways, of course, but they were still reckless fools despite how smart they really were. perhaps that came with great power — great stupidity when it came to self care or any thoughts of caution. that smile is returned, his less lopsided, he thinks less human. atram is flawed as humans should be, flawed & handsome & human. atlas is unnatural, the perfect hero son of basil hawthorne — he hopes the little scars across his cheeks, calloused hands, battle - scarred back are enough to offset the body maintained by the sacred star. the body of a human weapon, a bred hero. ❛ maybe fate has something greater in store for us, so we’re not allowed to die — ❜
