when nayoung graduated from sopa in february last year, she found herself comforting a lot of her younger friends and even friends from her class, all of whom assumed they wouldn’t get to see her nearly as often, or even at all. nayoung herself had even had to fight tears that day, at the thought of the huge change she was about to experience -- the shift from high school to university. 

while it’s true that she doesn’t see her friends from high school nearly as often as she used to, she still thinks she probably spends a bit too much time at her former school. she doesn’t mind, though -- she has friends from university, of course, but she doesn’t mind holding on to her friends from high school. even if she’s technically supposed to “move on” from that stage of her life, she’s simply too fond of her friends to let them all go. 

not that she’d ever mention that out loud, though.

it’s a familiar path to the ballet studio. after all, it was hers for most of her life. nayoung had texted eunha only a few hours previously, alerting her that she’d be swinging by after the other’s ballet class. nayoung knew the schedule, too, because she’d followed the same one for years before finally moving on. some things, however, she didn’t move on from, eunha’s friendship being one of them. nayoung refused to let them fall out of touch, keeping up regular chats through text and also making sure to meet up and hang out from time to time.

jieqiong’s presence was a familiar one in nayoung’s apartment. the younger’s been coming over regularly for ages, since just a short while after nayoung met her in high school. her parents joke and call jieqiong their “secret chinese daughter,” and it’s not hard to see why. with the amount of time she spends in the im household and how much time she and nayoung spend together in general, the two of them really could be sisters. 

( they always felt like something different than that, though. something more, though nayoung would never in a million years mention that to jieqiong. she’d never let her live it down. )

that time together has been cut drastically since jieqiong became a trainee, though she still manages to come over sometimes on the weekends, when her schedules are apparently shorter. this is one of those times, and nayoung sits on the couch, watching as jieqiong flips through channels on the tv, her head leaning against nayoung’s shoulder. 

as seoyeon waits for her metro to arrive, she takes a bite of her sandwich and hums, happy to finally have something in her belly after a long day at school. for such a small girl, it really took a lot of food to keep her energy levels up.

there's a light screech as the subway comes to a halt. she waits a few moments for people to get off before walking into the cart herself. it's pretty packed being the end of the day, and she finds herself stood in front of a girl her age. she takes another small bite of her food, relishing in how delicious it was. she vowed to make another trip to that sandwich shop tomorrow after school.

she goes to take another bite as a man who's boarding runs right into her. to her horror, the sandwich falls out of her hands and into the girl's lap in front of her. her face immediately flushes red, and she turns around angrily at the man who hit her, "you didn't have to be so rough." she says, but is completely ignored.

her attention is immediately back on the girl in front of her and she bows quickly, "oh i'm so sorry." she says, "i should have had a better grip on it."

the bus stop isn’t exactly close to home. it’s several blocks away -- it can take up to fifteen minutes to reach it from the restaurant if the streets are crowded. so when it starts raining cats and dogs while she’s on the bus, nayoung nearly groans aloud. her stop is just around the corner when the rain starts, so she knows there’s little chance of it fading away before she has to get off. 

she’s already resigned herself to her two options when she steps off -- she can either walk home in the rain and get soaked, or take the chance of sitting and waiting under the covered bus stop for the rain to stop. as much as she doesn’t want to just sit here for who knows how long, she has expensive textbooks in her bag -- not to mention her laptop and every note she’s taken for her classes, all of which will bleed and become illegible if they get wet. she fears she doesn’t have much of a choice, so when she steps off the bus she sits on the bench, holding her bag in her lap and wrapping her arms around it. the weight is heavy on her legs, but she doesn’t really mind it.
