there is not a lot that gets past melissa. her youngest niece arriving home at an ungodly hour had been one of them. whether or not dana knows, she isn’t sure, but she hadn’t been about to wake her up to check. god knows dana deserves the sleep with the shifts she works. so she kept quiet about it, for now that is. whether she’d keep it a secret later remains to be seen. it all depends on how this conversation goes, and if felicity is genuinely remorseful for her stupidity.
though, can melissa really judge when she and dana were far worse in their youth?
❝ tell your mom you were hammered last night which is illegal? ❞ melissa raises a brow, her arms folding over her chest as she leans back against the counter. ❝ you think she’s not gonna know herself when she goes to wash your clothes from last night? liquor is a lot like cigarettes, that shit sticks to you. ❞ the redhead gives another point to the bowl. ❝ doubt you ate much last night. get some food in your system and then we’ll see whether i’m feeling nice today. ❞

the loss never gets easier. doesn’t matter how long you’ve been on the job, how many people you lose, the feelings of guilt and shame will always be present. you think about what you could have done differently, or if you didn’t act fast enough. everything goes through the brain and it is so easy to end up spiraling. frank doesn’t want that happening to her. he doesn’t want her blaming herself for something that was clearly out of their control. sometimes they just got here too late, and no matter what they did, no matter how hard they tried, they lost a life.
it’s easier to try and comfort when it wasn’t your patient. lucy was the one who got to them first, who was calling the shots. frank hopped in after the fact, but the blood loss had already been too severe. he knew it, too, but who was he to call it when she still thought there was a chance? he doesn’t like being right, not in these circumstances. ❝ there wasn’t anything you could have done differently. she just… got to us too late. you did everything you could, went above and beyond what most of us would have done. you tried, and that’s all we can do. ❞

❝ my dear olivia, one cannot cheat in a game of mastermind. it is based purely on strategy and guesswork. i just happen to be an incredible decoder. ❞ john sets the board game down, turning the codemaker side to her. ❝ i will even turn around and look the complete opposite direction while covering my eyes, if it makes you feel better. ❞

arms fold over his chest, examining her as she stands in the offices of organized crime. definitely a surprise to see her here, all these years later. he had no idea casey was even still in the game. hell, he didn’t know if she’d even still been in new york. the truth is, elliot doesn’t know where anyone is anymore, aside from liv, fin, and melinda. he knows that cragen is retired, he’s seen him once or twice since his return to new york, but everyone else they’ve worked with? alex? huang? cassidy? not a single clue, and until this point casey had been part of that list too.
❝ what is it you’re doing these days? ❞ elliot can guess she’s still involved in law, given what she said to him. but was she still an ADA? had she stepped down from that position? was she promoted to something even higher? ❝ and how exactly are you going to be helping organized crime? ❞

@ofinkandalibis said: To Fin from Sonny: "you just love bringing that back up to annoy me."
❝ hey man, i just call it like i see it. ❞ his hands raise innocently. the comment that got him in trouble was regarding carisi’s old mustache from when he first joined SVU. the man in front of them in line at the cafe had a mustache that had reminded the sergeant of sonny back in the day, and of course he had to bring it up, because that mustache had been absolutely ridiculous. now that he was a fancy lawyer and no longer a direct member of the team, fin felt it appropriate to tease the living hell out of him whenever he had the chance. ❝ it’s a good thing you shaved that monstrosity, cause you’d have never scored rollins if you were still sporting that. ❞

it’s what she hates about the justice system. they pick and they choose which victims are worth it. just because their victim is a sex worker doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve the same respect, the same belief that say a mother of three would receive from the judge and the jury. she was absolutely crucified on that witness stand today, and it took every amount of effort for the captain not to say something right in that court room.
she runs a hand down her face, trying to think of how they can turn this case around. ❝ they are judging her because of how she makes her living. because she gets paid to sleep with men, she was automatically asking for it. it isn’t right, carisi. ❞ she knows her former detective is well aware of that. ❝ what do you need from us to win this case? there has to be something. ❞
