She’d never been perfect at Apparition, so when Ginny wound up standing in front of Number Eight, she simply trekked down the sidewalk a few houses until she reached Number Twelve. For a moment, she stood outside the gate and tried to imagine what Harry Potter was doing in there all alone. She’d asked. Of course she'd asked.
Twice. In two separate owls a few months apart. And she'd gotten no answer at all.
All Harry had had to do to appease Ginny was to give her the courtesy of a response. Even an owl with i've got a lot on my mind. I'm not sure would have been better than the alternative. Ginny had lost count of the number of evenings she'd spent worrying whether or not Harry had eaten more than the selection of homemade meals her Mum sent over on a bi-weekly basis -or else spent the night drinking away her musings about whether or not Harry had ever actually cared at all. It was easier to forget. She did so either by drinking or finding somebody else to take her mind off of things, but if she let herself sit still for too long, her mind always drifted back to Harry.
She'd sent a third owl three days ago. She'd given him ample time to reach out. And now Ginny was taking matters into her own hands. Shaking her head -and her thoughts away with them- Ginny pushed open the front gate and marched up the front walk of Number 12 Grimmauld Place. The porch steps creaked underfoot as she ascended. She crossed the porch in three quick strides, raised her fist, and rapped on the door once, twice, three times...she stopped somewhere around ten.
"Harry Potter," Ginny called through the closed door. "You get down here and open the door or I'll open it for you."
