It’s possible this is just me, but I can’t help but notice that in debates about Rory’s love life both Jess and even Dean are discussed and criticized as though they’re grown men fully aware of their every action and how they effect Rory and those around them. To be clear, I’m a Dean hater and have a lot of problems with him while I’m a big Jess fan. On the other hand, Logan is almost infantilized in comparison even though he’s the eldest of the three and is already pushing 23 by the time we meet him. So unlike with Jess and Dean, there’s a lot of defense of Logan, saying he can’t possibly know how to treat a partner or navigate anything because Rory is his first official girlfriend. So like, when Logan is heralded as of the best of the three, all I can think about is Logan never being held to the same standards.
Aw, thanks! And yeah, I've noticed this too. It's not just you, haha. Dean (the first and second time) and Jess were teenagers when they dated Rory (who was ALSO a teenager!), whereas Logan was already a grown man, and those few years of maturity and experience can (and should!) make a HUGE difference at that age. And I'm not saying that immaturity is an "excuse" for everything they got wrong, but come on now. I might propose that a comparison between, let's say, Jess at 21 to Logan at 23 might be more fair, but for some strange reason they don't like to talk about that as much. 😆 Was that Jess "in a Relationship" with Rory? No, but... I've said it before, but Jess's interactions with Rory in those episodes explicitly show him having grown in the specific areas that were problems for them when they WERE dating (being open and communicative and even vulnerable, making plans, etc.), so I think that's a pretty good assessment. Anyway. Am I biased? Sure. But aren't we all? We all have our little favorites, haha.
