“I can’t do this anymore, Gojo!” you said, your voice shaken, your hands trembling just the same.
You and Gojo had been dating for five months—two months of goodness and love, the last three being the complete opposite. Your “relationship” had taken a turn, and not a good one.
Gojo… he began to change. Staying out later than usual. More and more frequent fights. Nights spent alone, the only sound echoing through your shared penthouse being your cries. The place that once felt like home now felt cold and dull.
Gojo himself looked at you less. Talked to you less. You couldn’t do it anymore. You felt like a lost puppy in your own so-called “home,” following its owner, begging for just an ounce of love and affection.
So here you were, fighting with Gojo again. The two of you had been yelling back and forth for the past hour.
“Seriously? Using my last name?” Gojo laughed mockingly. He knew how to get under your skin, always claiming he didn’t “mean” to manipulate you.
You threw your hands up in the air. “Yes! Yes, I’m using your last name!” you cried, the tears you’d been holding back ever since Gojo got home now threatening to fall. “Please, just listen to me! You’re not even trying to hear me out!”
“Okay, fine,” he let out a low laugh. “Talk.”
You exhaled deeply, wiping your eyes. “Okay… for the past three months, it’s been a downhill spiral in this relationship. You know it, I know it. You’ve been distant, shutting me out. There have been more fights between us. I just don’t know why! So please, tell me what I’ve been doing.
Tell me what I can change about myself to make it go back to how it used to be… please.”
Gojo let out a breath. “Nothing.”
“Okay, then why—”
“I never loved you.”
Gojo stared at you, waiting for your reaction. “At the time, I was dealing with my own stuff, so I looked for someone to fill the void I was feeling. You were just another fling…”
Your eyes met his, and it felt like an eternity. Your mouth opened, wanting to say something, but nothing came out.
“You aren’t that special to me.”
Your face twisted with confusion and hurt. “…Liar.”
“What?” he asked, clearly surprised by what you had said, but you just shook your head.
“Okay… then fine. If I’m not important to you, then we’re done. I’m breaking up with you.” Your voice weakened toward the end as you turned around, heading into your shared room. You quickly packed your necessities, making your way to the front door.
“I’ll gather the rest of my stuff in a few days. Goodbye, Gojo.”
And with that, you left the penthouse you used to call home, leaving Gojo in silence.
Present Time:
Months had passed—four, to be exact.
You had been doing better compared to when you first left Gojo, at least. You got yourself a small apartment fitted for one person and began picking up healthier habits—ones you would’ve never seen yourself doing months ago.
Overall, your mental and physical state had improved. You were better… healthier.
But a part of your mind still lingered on Gojo.
Even now, you still thought of the words he said.
“I never loved you.”
“You aren’t that special to me.”
“You were just another fling.”
Those words had bruised your self-esteem. You poured all your love and affection into your relationship with Gojo. You gave him everything you could—but at what cost?
So now, here you were at 10 p.m., setting down the book you were reading and making your way to your front door. You opened it to see the white-haired man—those blue eyes you had hoped to never make eye contact with again.
Gojo looked at you, analyzing how different you were. He could tell, just from a glance, how much better you were doing.
“Hey… y/n.”
You looked at him, noticing how his hands were slightly shaky. Was he nervous to see you? No, that couldn’t be it. Gojo Satoru never got nervous—especially not for you.
At least, that’s what you thought.
But for him, his heart felt like it was about to jump out of his chest.
“Hey, Gojo,” you said. “What’re you… doing here?”
“I—I… just wanted to come see you…” he said, looking at you. A faint blush dusted his cheeks, almost unnoticeable. His voice shook slightly. “And ask you something.”
“How’d you know where I lived?”
“One of your friends.”
You just nodded and stepped out of the way, letting him come inside. The two of you sat on the couch, leaving some distance between you.
“So… what did you want to ask me?” you hesitated.
Gojo met your gaze. “Can we… start over? I miss you. I can’t do this without you. And I know—God, I know I’ve been so shitty… but y/n, please. I miss us.”
You looked at him, baffled. A part of you felt a flicker of excitement hearing those words—but you knew better.
“There was no us, Gojo. It was always just me. I gave you everything—everything I could—just for you to use me. To say I was just another fling.”
Gojo stood up from the couch, pacing back and forth.
“I know what I said, but I realized I didn’t mean it. Y/n, please. I love you. I miss you. I’ll treat you better, I swear.” He kneeled in front of you. “When we were dating, I thought the void I felt could be patched up by having someone there—someone to occupy my time. I refused to believe I could actually start catching feelings for someone. I mistook the warmth I felt with you as something disposable… something I could replace.
But that warmth… it’s something I should’ve never taken for granted.”
He swallowed, voice softer now.
“Y/n… four months ago, I may have thought you were just a fling—someone to pass time with—but the more I think about it, the more I realize that I want to spend a lifetime with you. I want to grow old with you. I want to give you all my time…
Y/n, it’s always been you.”
You finally met Gojo’s eyes after hearing that last sentence. You hadn’t even noticed the tears slipping down your face.
“Sato—Gojo… I… I don’t know. I just found myself again. I just healed from what you scarred me with. I don’t think I can go through all that again.”
He gently wiped your tears. “And you won’t. I promise.”
You stayed quiet, looking down at your lap, contemplating what to do. He sounded so sincere. He most definitely wasn’t lying—you knew him. You could always tell when he was lying.
No sane person would show up at their ex’s house four months later if they were “just a fling,” right?
Sensing your hesitation, Gojo spoke again.
“One question… do you hate me?”
You looked up at him. “I actually made a list. I heard it helps with emotional healing,” you said, letting out a small laugh to lighten the mood.
“Let me hear it,” he said.
“What? Why?”
Gojo got up from kneeling and sat beside you, more relaxed now. “So I can change. So I can be better for you.”
“Well…” you hesitated, “if you insist.”
