gojo realizes pretty fast that megumi does this thing where he ignores people on purpose, and not in a rude way, just in a very megumi way. he will sit on the floor with his arms crossed, his back straight while staring intently at nothing at all, and gojo will lean down right into his space.

"hey" he says, his voice soft and playful, like hes trying not to laugh "hey. megumin. meguminnn..."

megumi doesnt even blink, he just scoots an inch away with a tiny scowl, like if he moves far enough maybe gojo will disappear.

gojo laughs every time because its ridiculous, because hes ridiculous, because he keeps doing it even when megumi clearly tells him to get off.

"get off" megumi grumbles, but gojo drapes himself over him anyway, like a dramatic blanket.

"meguminn.." gojo whines, voice exaggerated, like he’s been deeply wounded.

megumi is stubborn in that quiet way, the kind that digs deep, because when gojo tries to hold his hand while they walk, megumi pulls away immediately, lips pressed into a thin line.

he always shake his little head, all grumpy and huffy.

gojo sighs like hes been hurt, so he places a hand over his heart, eyes wide, and says "..this world is so cruel, nobody loves me.."

megumi keeps walking, but after a few steps his fingers brush gojos sleeve just barely.

gojo notices instantly and grins like hes won something, gently hooking his pinky around megumis without saying a word. he knows if he points it out, megumi will let go.

gojo sits way too close on the couch, on the floor, wherever megumi is, gojo is suddenly right there, leaning over his shoulder to see what hes doing even if its nothing.

poor little megumi gets visibly annoyed, shoulders tense, muttering under his breath, but he doesnt move away

sometimes gojo rests his chin on megumis head, humming a nonsense song, and megumi pushes at him half heartedly, his cheeks warm, telling him to stop.

"stop" he says, sounding annoyed but not really meaning it

gojo drops megumi off at school on his first day, like hes the proudest dad in the world.

gojo doesnt, he just laughs quietly, hand settling around megumis middle to keep him from escaping, like its the most natural thing in the world.

gojo alwayssss does megumis hair in the morning.

no talking, no warning, just him sitting behind megumi at the table and reaching for his hair like its nothing.

megumi doesnt even try to stop him, he just lets gojo smooth his hair into that messy spike look, (which..obviously comes naturally usually, but gojo makes it more refined.) like its part of the routine now.

when gojos done, he leans back and nods, satisfied. megumi stares at the reflection in the window, expression flat, but his eyes are calmer.

gojo doesnt say anything. he just moves on, like it was always meant to be that way.

little does he know, gojo is always making sure megumis hair looks like his. he thinks of it as if theyre matching.

megumi stands in the doorway, backpack too big for him, trying to look calm and normal, but his cheeks are pink and his hands are shaking.

gojo leans in, way too close, smiling like hes about to announce something important to the whole world.

"meguminn..." he says, voice cheerful and loud, "you ready to show everyone how cool you are?"

megumi glares at him "im not cool"

"yeah you are" gojo insists, voice soft but still loud enough to be heard in the hall "youre my cool little guy"

megumi crosses his arms, stubborn as ever "go away"

gojo just laughs and gives him a quick ruffle of his hair. "okay, okay. i’ll go...but dont forget, if anyone bothers you? you tell them youll call big, strong gojo"

megumi freezes, huffing, and he shakes his little head again.

"nu uh" gojo replies, still grinning "you better remember"

megumi looks like hes about to explode.

he shoves his hands into his pockets and starts walking in, trying to act like he doesnt care.

gojo calls after him "and hey, megumi? say hi to your teacher for me"

of course he says that.

megumi turns his head, voice flat. "no" and gojo just waves, laughing, like hes already won.

megumi walks into the school like hes trying to disappear.

but gojo is still standing there, smiling, because he knows that even if megumi wont admit it, he liked that, he liked that gojo was proud.

and then theres bedtime..

bedtime is a whole event...

megumi sits on the futon, arms crossed, refusing to lie down because gojo keeps flicking the light on and off and whispering "boo" like hes the funniest person alive.

megumi glares at him, absolutely unimpressed, but when gojo finally settles beside him, calmer now, he starts telling some stupid story about a guy who fought monsters with his bare hands.

megumi slowly relaxes. he doesnt say anything, just leans a little closer, shoulder brushing gojos arm.

gojo notices, but pretends he doesnt, his voice softens without him realizing it, and his hand starts patting megumis back until his breathing evens out.

bedtime is the only time megumi becomes a little less grumpy.

the boy has too much grump for his size and age..

gojo knows megumi isnt big on smiling. he doesnt push it, but sometimes, when he catches that tiny twitch at the corner of his mouth, an almost smile when gojo does something extra dumb, t feels like winning.

"there it is" gojo whispers, like hes found treasure.

megumi pretends hes annoyed, pretends hes not listening, pretends gojo isnt important, but he always stays close and always within reach, and always there.
