i made my first zine!

this past july, i took a small portuguese signed language (Língua Gestual Portuguesa, or LGP for short - signed language isn't universal, each country has its own) course, and i'd been meaning to try my hand at doing my first zine, so i took a simple concept and decided i'd go as basic as possible: black and white, only one sheet of paper.

the concept? a cheat sheet for the gestures corresponding to the first 10 numbers in LGP. i figured they would fit nicely in the confines of a mini-zine such as this!

i've also included a small disclaimer about how signed language is much more complex than this little sheet of paper shows, and that this is merely a fun artistic depiction of the gestures and does not replace learning the language with actual deaf teachers.

Now, to prepare for summer content. 

Lorelai Gilmore is a good person, part one: apologies (accepting responsibility for her actions and not allowing others to belittle their feelings for her own benefit)

She looks somber as she says “I’m sorry”. The frame changes to show Emily sitting at a table, Lorelai’s hands behind her holding a veil. Emily writes something as she says “Alright, you’re sorry”. Her face is stoic.

Gif four: The same shot of Lorelai as before. She heaves a sigh, her face looking sadly amused as she says “I don’t know how to tell you things, mom. [...] I’m sure I share part of the blame for this circle we get into”.

Gif five: Lorelai and Sookie stand in the kitchen at the Independence Inn. Sookie stands at the stove, her face impassive as she stirs and fusses with the pots and pans in front of her. She is wearing a red smock and an apron, her hair clipped back. Lorelai stands in the back of the frame, facing Sookie, a sad expression on her face. She is wearing a floral blouse with her hair half up. She says “I’m sorry”. Sookie responds “That’s okay”.

Gif six: The shot is identical to that of the third gif. Lorelai gestures as she says “No it isn’t. You are a brilliant chef and to think that you should do things differently from how you do them now is ridiculous”.

Gif seven: A profile shot of Luke and Lorelai outside of Miss Patty’s. Lorelai walks towards him, tucking her coat around her body and fiddling with the buttons. Luke stands with his hands in his coat pockets and his shoulders hunched. He says “See, there’s a reason I stay away from people on this particular day, it’s ‘cause I kinda suck”.
