Hullo and Happy New Year! Creeping on Utena's 30th anniversary, we've got something special for y'all! This here is a cover to cover scan in high resolution of a literal vintage artbook, released in January of 1998 right after the series finished. Welcome to 110 full color pages of....
Rose Confession - Revolutionary Girl Utena "This is Animation"
The forum discusses the details more, but you want sauce, right??
Here's the 4k browsing friendly copy at the Bibliothèque print material archive we are growing.
Here's the ridiculous 6k copy that I have uploaded to the Internet Archive.
This is a compilation of images and events from the television series. It covers the early show most exhaustively, with the Akio Arc and beyond being teased at. It was a Ciao! Special publication, that being the magazine publishing the manga at the time, itself still having a few months to go after the series completed. The above are the only new artwork for the book, but back in the 00's this was a hot artbook, and it was one of the first I scanned back then! Enjoy!!

In an AU where things are Better™ and instead of being Gertrude's unofficial assistant, Gerry is Jon's:
He doesn't officially work at the institute but he's always there anyways because he and Jon physically cannot be apart for more the a few hours (codependent Jongerry my beloved)
They come in together at work, half asleep and falling over each other, sharing a big thermos of coffee that Gerry hand-painted and trying to remember whether they fed their dog this morning
No one actually knows who Gerry is other then that he's 'with Jon' whatever that means, but he helps around so they don't complain. (He also knows a lot about supernatural and stuff so he's like a walking data base which is useful)
If he's not doing a specific task he'll hang around Jon's desk and poke at him and steal his drink and make sound affects for the statements he reads
Everyone is very confused about the status of their relationship but are too scared to ask
hi, sorry if requests are closed but I saw your post about jealousy headcanons for the main ranked trainers and they’ve been living rent free in my head. Then with The part about Corbreu already looking for Rings leads me to my Ask. How you do you imagine the trainers you used in that list would react to the GN!reader proposing to them?
Read this wrong and wrote the trainers proposing to reader lol sowwy
ZA Ranked Trainers x Reader Proposing
Vinnie
My man is NERVOUS
Poor Vinnie has been sweating bullets for days. You were convinced he was getting sick; he was twitchy and on edge, which was entirely unlike him
Not that he thought you would say no. He loved you dearly, he was sure you loved him. It was more the actually asking part that had him reeling
Also his daughter threatened him by saying he would not be invited to play with her Barbies again if he screwed it up. A lot was riding on this
Vinnie is smart enough to look through your existing jewelery to get a grasp on your tastes. Your ring would be a perfect fit to your style, yet still outshine the rest of your collection
His original plan was proposing on top of Lumiose Tower after the repairs finished. But due to recent developements, that plan was out the window. What now?
A restaurant? No, too cliché. The park? No way, everyone does that! He was driving himself insane. There had to be a way to do this right
It was late at night, and you were actually starting to get worried. Vinnie was even quieter than usual, pacing through the apartment, mumbling to himself
"Is it something I did?" ... Huh? Vinnie turned to you, at first confused as to what you meant, but then slowly smiling to himself
"Oh, yes it is. Entirely your fault, actually." He took your hand, leading you back into your bedroom, only to turn around and dig through some random drawer
You were fearing the worst. This was it. You were about to be single, left by the best thing thatever happened to you
Vinnie suddenly stopped going through the drawer. "It was two years ago you came into my life. One year since we moved in together. Seven months since I made up my mind. Five months of having this, racking my brain on how to present it to you."
The ring fit perfectly, and the invitation to Barbie's dreamhouse was reinstated
Canari
In the unlikely event she doesn't turn the proposal into a sub goal, it would go like this:
Well, it would absolutely still be on stream. Stuff like that is great content
You know those videos where someone counts down the days until the proposal by taking a picture of the ring while their spouse turns their back?
Canari took great delight in showing off the ring while you had no idea
Shopping date? Pic of the ring while you're in the wardrobe. ZA Royale? Canari has the ring on, with you in the background fighting your heart out.
But the main event was during a seemingly normal stream. Your girlfriend had you playing a really hard game, one of those you have to focus on to get anything done
"I'm total shit at this part, you do it!", she said, putting her headphones on you and scampering off. You were in the mood to show off, so you got to work doing some sick speedrun skips (which you failed miserably)
Meanwhile, in the background, Canari came into view, dancing around, occasionally flashing the ring to the camera
She already told chat to play along earlier, and they tried their very hardest to not freak out
"SSSHHHHH GUYS QUIET"
"this is totally not the biggest event of the year"
"nobody panic!!!"
"i am acting so normal and natural right now"
Of course, you got suspicious at some point. Deciding to call for Canari, you turned around, only to find her standing over you, holding the little velvet box in your face
Ivor
He did not notice that he proposed
In his mind, of course you're staying together forever. Marriage is a formality. If you so much as mentioned it, he'd be at the courthouse before dawn
You didn't, though. Whether you wanted him to ask or you didn't mind waiting, Ivor couldn't say. What he did know, however, was that something bothered him
He overheard it one evening when Gwynn and her friends talked about relationships in the dojo. "A relationship is doomed if you don't have a ring by year 3." - "For real. I'm not doing wifey stuff without the official title, you know?" - "Yeah, I'd be gone after year 2 honestly."
... You just celebrated your 3 year anniversary two months ago. Uh-oh. But he didn't want you to go? What now?
Not to mention, Ivor deeply loved the wifey stuff! Cuddling is an essential part of his work-out routine! It trains his heart- and arm-muscles!
So, he set out to procure a ring. If it's important for a couple to wear rings, he's gonna get you one, no matter what
Expensive establishments hate to see him coming. He has always been a Tauros in a porcelain shop, even more so when he was on one of his one-track-mind missions. It took him 3 hours to find a shop that didn't lock the door when they saw him approach
The ring is ugly. Really, truly ugly. He picked the stones to match the colors of your ace pokemon. They don't, he's not good with colors, but the sentiment was certainly there and that's what counts in the end
You almost dropped your plate when he came barreling through the door. It was a miracle it stayed in its' hinges. Good thing you reinforced the whole apartment after the last time he wanted to help clean
"RING!" was all he shouted, holding the little bag in front of him, grinning, clearly proud. "Now you don't have to leave!"
Gwynn
This girl has had a Pinterest board for proposal and marriage since she was 11. She knows exactly how she wants it, and she will make sure that it's perfect
She also made sure not to say a word to Ivor. He would just blurt it out the first chance he got, not remembering that it was supposed to be a surprise. If you want Ivor to keep something secret, don't tell him in the first place. He has ruined many a surprise birthday party in his time
The scene was set perfectly. A picnic in Zone 4, at dusk, with all the homemade fancy snack foods you could imagine. She wore her cutest dress, the one with the flared sleeves, even Chandelure had a bunch of tasteful purple bows attached to its' branches. Everything was perfect
When you arrived, Gwynn had to bite back a smile. She told you that she wanted to take care of everything today, yet you still showed up with a bouquet on your arm. The flowers matched her decorations perfectly. Just more proof that you belong together, in her mind
Sunset came and went, but you both stayed put on your little blanket in the middle of the cemetery. The food was long gone, the street lights flickered on and you two sat side by side, watching the ghost pokemon go about their buisness
Gwynn broke the silence first. "Imagine being together, like this, for eternity", she said, pointing to two of the ghosts floating close together, "Would be nice, right?" She looked at you pointedly, gauging your reaction
"With you? Absolutely. Can't imagine my eternity with anyone else." Holding your hand, Gwynn pondered your words, then turned around to dig through the basket she brought. You tried to catch a glimpse of what she was doing, but couldn't see anything
Then finally, she turned back to you. "Me neither", she said, holding the ring before you. "But let's make sure, just in case."
Corbeau
As a continuation from this post
It was after an adventure gone wrong in one of the wormholes strewn around the city. Corbeau scraped you off the ground of an alley and brought you to a hospital, never leaving your side once during your stay
Most of his time was spent scolding you, and due to your tired state, you started getting really annoyed with him
"Okay, fine, I get it! I'm sorry, I was stupid, you can stop now." Your voice was trembling, overwhelmed with the events of the day and Corbeau fussing over you. You were embarrassed enough that he saw you like this, all beat up and gross from running around all day
He was quiet for a moment, looking at you incredulously. "Don't you dare say that", he whispered, grasping your hand firmly. "You are not stupid, don't you think that for a second. Your problem is that you charge into everything on your own." He squeezed your hand. "Do you have any idea how worried I get? Knowing you're all alone, off in some random dimension without me? There's no way to know if you need help, and I have to sit around in my office waiting to hear from you."
The room was silent for a while, safe for the sound of the heart monitor beeping away. You had insisted you don't need it, but the nurses know you by name by now, and they wouldn't have none of it
"Thank you for coming for me", you said, just as quiet as he was just a moment ago. Corbeau smiled to himself. "Of course. What kind of husband would I be if-"
He went silent immediately, his brain short circuiting, staring at your face. This was not how he imagined it. It was supposed to be all romantic, in a fancy restaurant or something, not this
"Careful, that sounds dangerously close to a proposal." Giggling into your free hand, you didn't take your eyes off your boyfriend (?) for a second
"And what if it was?", he asked, his hand going into the pocket of his coat comtaining the little box
Philippe
If it were up to him, you would've been married like yesterday
Everyone already knew you were together. You came to the HQ every day to bring him a hot meal right on time for his break. Hell, you were his phone background
He always knew he wanted to be with you forever. The moment he met you, he was mesmerized. A pretty thing like you, talking to him? Laughing at his jokes? Oh, Phillipe was in heaven anytime you came around
Asking you to marry him was a no-brainer. He found the perfect ring months ago. It practically screamed your name, sitting in that delicate display case
Only thing, he was unsure when to propose. You deserved something worthwhile, something romantic, something to brag to your friends about
Vacation was out the window. No way he could leave the grunts to their own devices long enough. Perhaps a restaurant? Seemed tacky, in front of all those strangers
In the end, Philippe thought, it was quite obvious all along. All this time, he was sitting on a romantic goldmine without noticing
You met him during golden hour on the roof of the Rust Syndicate HQ. The alcove hidden amond the bamboo was the perfect place for two people to get some privacy
When you arrived, he was already waiting for you, tapping his foot nervously. He was on edge, that much was clear, and it was so unlike him that you almost began to worry. Almost.
"I've been waiting for you", he said, immediately coming up to you, not able to wait any longer to be close
"I've been meanin' to ask you somethin' important." He got all serious, more so than normal. "Thought this would be a good place."
"I may am about to have a new boss, you know." Opening his big hand, a ring lay in his palm. "If the new boss agrees, that is."
Jacinthe
At first, she is waiting patiently for you to ask her. Then after a whole month of extreme patience, she decided to take the reigns
Jacinthe is anything but subtle. It took you all of two days to figure out what she kept giggling about. All the packages, flowers and pastries sent to your shared penthouse were a good hint as well
She kept bouncing between a grand engagement party and something private and luxurious. Showing off her new fiance immediately was very tempting; you were the single most priceless luxury in her life, after all, and everyone ought to see how very lucky she got
But on the other hand, a private proposal would be a once in a lifetime event. The most exclusive celebration in all of Lumiose. Yes, yes of course! A party can always come after, but the proposal will be just between you two, surrounded by flowers, popping expensive champagne, immediately moving on to cuddling on the couch for the whole night
Not that it will be lowkey. Jacinthe made sure to fill the living room with a thousand roses, balloons, scented candles, the fire place going, soft violin music playing
Jacinthe was so proud of herself. She thought of everything. She had Siebold himself come in earlier to prepare some delectable morsels, only the finest for such an important occasion. She made sure to include all your favourites, made from the most expensive ingredients one could find, of course. Anything less than perfect was unacceptable
The ring was layed on an ornamental table, surrounded by roses and candles. It was stood in the middle of the balcony, waiting for the one person that Jacinthe could not imagine her future without. Her palms started to sweat under her gloves, but she refused to let the nervousness show on her face. She mumbled to herself, waiting for you while pacing the large balcony. Stay strong, Jacinthe, there is no need to worry!
You thought you stepped into a movie scene when you came home. A trail of petals was leading to the balcony, where Jacinthe was waiting for you. She had a whole speech prepared, but seeing you actually standing in front of her, her mind went blank
Presenting the ring to you, she smiled nervously, all her prior confidence gone. "What do you say, mon amour?"
Lebanne
The ring was bought by Jacinthe. It was not hard to notice that Lebanne was entirely under your spell, with no intention to change that anytime soon. So, her Lady decided to play matchmaker, gifting her with a decidedly too expensive ring to propose to you
It wasn't a hard order to follow. Lebanne would be happy to elope as soon as you gave the green light, so having the ring ready was just a weight off her back. She never has been good with jewelery, after all
The actual proposal came not with some grand gesture. It was, as most of Lebanne's big life changes went, in the heat of the moment. You were waiting for her in the lobby of Hotel Richissime, idling away the minutes on your phone, when one of the society members came over and struck up a conversation. You weren't all that into it, all these primm and proper people annoyed you to no end, so you just hummed non-committal awnsers at them every now and then
Which was when Lebanne stepped out of the elevator. It was a long day of watching over Ansha, making sure she didn't run off to who-knows-where again, and she was more than ready to grab an after-work beer with her favourite person
She stopped dead in her tracks when she saw you talking to one of those rich assholes. She would NOT let some prissy weirdo swoop in and steal HER partner. Nuh-uh. No way, no how.
So, Lebanne hurried over in long strides, rudely pushing past guests and society members alike. She would 100% get an earfull from Lady Jacinthe later, but she couldn't get herself to care
Lebanne layed a hand on the person's shoulder, only to yank them back and take their place in front of you
"We gotta do something about randos trying to talk you up", she said, clearly annoyed. You couldn't help giving her an amused smile; you girlfriend was so easy to rile up, but you wouldn't have it any other way
"This should help." Without much fanfare, Lebanne, surprisingly gently, shoved the ring onto your finger, her hands lingering on yours. "Only if you want it, of course..."
Grisham
He has thought about it for months. Going back and forth with himself, debating on whether it'd be wise to bind you to him, what with all his baggage he carried
Thing is, for all his good qualities, Grisham is a selfish man. The thought of you, in the arms of another, tore him up inside. There's no way he would be fine with that. It had to be him. And it had to be you. Anything else simply wouldn't make sense
Saving for the ring was rough. For a few weeks, dinner was whatever was left over from the café. But it was worth it. The ring was perfect for you, and he couldn't wait to see it on your finger
His first idea was to propose in Lysandre Labs, but Griselle hit him over the head with her tray when she heard that. Unkind words were spoken. His sentience was questioned. He got the message quite quick, but he still heard her angrily mumble to herself for the rest of her shift
The final plan came to him on his walk home, around the boundaries of Zone 19. That would work very nicely. If he managed to shoo the pokemon away for a moment, that is
The message to meet him there came around 7pm, right after the café closed. You practically skipped along the pavement, excited to meet your boyfriend. His shifts were decidedly too long lately. You missed him, despite seeing him every morning and evening
When the gazebo came into view, you sped up immediately. The alpha Drampa decided that it did not want to share the space with Grisham, and a fight broke out between them. While Charizard was strong, the Drampa seemed to give it a bit of trouble regardless
Running up the stairs, you stood next to your boyfriend, giving him a quick nod as a greeting before calling out your partner
Together, the alpha was quickly defeated, and you were finally able to greet Grisham with the hug that was standard between you two. You insisted that it was mandatory early on, and he was all to eager to agree
"I imagined this differently", he said, still out of breath from the battle, "Good thing the city's hero was around." His smile told you that it didn't bother him all too much in the end. So, you left that situation behind to ask him why he wanted to meet you here in the first place
"I thought it would be more romantic to ask you here. This place is really nice, after all." You looked at him confused. "Ask me what?"
"This", he said, lowering himself onto one knee
Griselle
Griselle always knew she wasn't the easiest person to get along with. She was bitter, rightfully so, and quick to anger. But, even if most people like their coffee sweet, there are those who seek out the deeper flavours. You were one such person, and she thanked whatever powers there may be every day that they sent you to her
It took her a long while to open up to you. Being vulnerable was difficult for her, and she spent most of her time those first few months you've known each other on pushing you away. Yet, you persisted, insisting on getting behind her walls for some godsforsaken reason. Now, she couldn't be more thankful for that
The wish to marry you manifested two years after you met, on a regular sunday spent lounging in bed. Laying with you, all cozy and warm, was a feeling she wanted to preserve forever, she thought. After knowing that something like this existed, how could she ever go back to not having you by her side?
It wasn't like her to go all out and make some grand gesture. What she did know how to make, however, was a nice dinner for two, perfect for two people who may or may not spend the rest of their lives together
She wasn't nervous, waiting for you. Not at all. The outcome of today only decided the direction her future would go. No biggie.
Okay no she was fucking terrified. What if you said no?? You had every reason to. She wouldn't fault you for it. Quite frankly, you'd be stupid to say yes. She hoped desperately that you felt stupid today
Dinner was nice, if a bit tense. Griselle seemed deep in thought, you noticed, and you were unsure if you should ask her about it or leave her to her thoughts. In the end, you decided to get to the bottom of it
"Is everything okay?", you asked, and Griselle smiled. You always could read her like a book. No one knew her better than you
"No, actually, it's not." Griselle got up, turning around to go to the junk drawer she used as a hiding place. "I've been thinking about something for a while, and I need your input on it."
You were worried at first, but that quickly dissipated when you were presented with a small, velvet box
"I think gold would look great on you, but what do you think?"
Urbain
He's ready to beg on his hands and knees
Urbain still doesn't quite get why exactly you chose him, but he's determined to cling on for dear life. He loves you so much, to spend the rest of his life without you sounds like torture
The decision to propose was easy. The decision how to do it; not so much. With a city this big, there were way too many possibilities. After everything that happened since you crashed into his life, how could he possibly choose just one location that was significant to you both?
No, wait. Of course there was one. The only one that made sense, really. Somewhere that meant something to you, where you could practice your shared hobby, and where the aesthetics were perfect? Urbain invited you to meet there right away, under the guise of official Quasartico buisness
The whole way there, the ring weighed heavy in his pocket. Did you even want to marry him? A no would be devastating. He'd have to move to another region. No way could he stand being on the same continent after. Maybe he'll change his name. Loner Diesalone sounded fitting
Seeing you standing under the ruined tower, already fighting the three alphas that reside there, Urbain grinned to himself. No, moving won't be neccessary. What was he thinking? Throwing his pokeball, Meganium let out a mighty roar, charging ahead to fight by your Feraligatr's side. You turned your head just a little, greeting your boyfriend with a smile
The alphas defeated, Urbain turned to you, out of breath but undeniably happy to be out having fun with you. You were hunched over, hands on your thighs to catch you breath, until he took one of your hands to steady you
"Everything started with this tower. It seemed fitting to end it here, too", he said, the hand not holding yours rummaging through his pockets. "Although, it's not really an end as much as a beginning, heh. Pretty deep, right?"
You looked at him confused, unsure what exactly he was talking about. That is, until he got down on one knee, presenting you with a little box
Taunie
Taunie my darling girl-failure, she is overwhelmed the moment she realizes she wants to marry you
So many possibilities! So much to plan! So little money for a ring, and Lida would kill her if she asked Corbeau for cash again! Maybe granny Jett would take pity on her and lend her some?
No, that just didn't feel right. She wanted to do it on her own. So, Taunie set out to earn money the only way she knew how
The nights were brutal. Hitting up all three Battle Zones every night, beating every last trainer and scrounging around for coins left on the ground took everything out of her
Today, she had been at it since the second the Battle Zones popped up. It was 2am, Emboar was 5 hyper potions deep, Goodra refused to walk one more step, and Meowstic was draped over her shoulders, hissing every time she so much as looked at another trainer
"Alright, I get it. Let's go home." The way back to the hotel was swift; she splurged on a taxi, her feet hurting too much to make the journey across the city. At least the end was in sight; just two more weeks of this and she'd have enough money for a nice pair of rings
Finally stepping into Hotel Z, Taunie found you sleeping on her usual chair in the lobby, a thick wool blanket draped over you, Floette snuggled into your lap. Were you waiting for her?
Gently shaking you awake by the shoulder, she smiled when you sleepily reached out to her, insisting on the hug you always get after you first wake up
"I'm worried about you", you whispered, trying not to wake the little flower up. "Why are you slaving away like this? If you have money trouble, I can totally lend you some. No interest rate."
Taunie chuckled, taking Floette off your lap and helping you up. "No, that's not it. I'm... saving up for something. And I'd rather get it sooner than later. You'll see."
You looked at her, expression unreadable, before slinking off towards the elevator, your girlfriend's hand still in your own. Taunie stopped short of the doors, still having to put Floette to bed
Getting on the elevator alone, you turned to her, yawning. "You don't have to buy both, you know. If you buy a ring for me, I want to buy one for you."
The elevator doors closed before she could ask how exactly you figured her plans out

Does anybody know if there's a behind the scenes thing that talks about the hair in Turn Washington's Spies?
I worked in the hair industry for a few years, and while I am not a professional or an expert, I have seen a LOT of hair, so while I've been watching and rewatching the show, I keep looking at people's hair and I'm positive that a lot of the characters are wearing wigs.
Once again, I AM NOT AN EXPERT, just a guy who's seen a lot of hair.
These are the assumptions I've made so far:
I'm pretty sure Peggy wears wigs a lot, if not every single time she's on screen. It's a lot cheaper for a production to have wigs of big, complicated hairstyles that they can just take on and off, rather than styling someone's hair like that for every scene.
Now I could be completely wrong, but I think Anna and Mary's hair are always their own. They have a lot of whispies and baby hairs, and their hairstyles are pretty consistent and not too elaborate to be impossible to do for filming.
Akinbode's hair is a timeless, short cut that wouldn't be inconvenient with inconsistency between shots, so it is probably his natural hair.
I think Caleb might have had some extensions in the first season for the tiny pony tail in the back, but by the later seasons, I think it's all his real hair.
I'm really curious about Ben's hair, because I think he might wear wigs sometimes, and at other times he's got extensions. So in the scenes where his hair is pulled back tightly into his braid, the hairline looks a lot like a lace wig; there's not much fading into the hairline (no baby hairs/edges), it's kinda like BOOM! There's a shit ton of hair and no buildup, and it's all the same length.
Look at the difference between Caleb and Ben's hairlines. You can almost see what I think is the lace and the foundation to blend and hide the lace around Ben's temple.
Then there are scenes where his hair is much shorter than it normally looks around his face, to the point that he can't pull it back into his braid. I think about the entirety of the first episode, and possibly the entire first season, and (my favorite episode and Ben-aesthetic of all time) Blood for Blood when they're at Caleb's prisoner exchange.
I think when Ben's hair is like that, it might be his natural hair--cause the hairline actually has normal-looking baby hairs--and the back might have extensions to be able to braid; cause--unless the actor had a really extreme wolf cut--I don't think the back would be long enough to braid with the front being the length it is. (again, I'm not a professional or an expert, this is all just guesswork)
Look at the difference at the temples compared to the (possible) wig pics. So many baby hairs, an actual fade/buildup to the volume of hair.
Andre...I think I can, without a doubt, proclaim that he has braid extensions for those two bleach blonde braids. But other than that, it could easily be his real hair.
Now...I'm really not sure about this one, but I kind of think that MAAAAAYBE Hewlett and Simcoe sometimes wear wigs. But idk, you guys tell me.
