Since the r-slur is making a comeback (you know, the word that starts with R, has six letters, and ends in D), I'm gonna make a little PSA:
Yes, it's an ableist slur.
Terms like "asshat," "head-up-ass," "up their own ass," and "high on their own farts" exist. There's also words like crap, dogshit, half-assed, assclown, and chucklefuck. And on the less vulgar side, there are terms like ridiculous, nonsense, train wreck, pointless, insipid, self-absorbed, pretentious, annoying, boring, contemptible, vile, and disgusting.
Substituting words like restarted, poptarted, brain damaged, smoothbrain, etc. is still ableist, because either 1. you obviously still mean the r-word, or 2. you're still using disability as an insult.

Jokes about which fictional characters would be calling people homophobic slurs on the Call of Duty voice chat can be much funnier if the character in question is from a historical or quasi-historical milieu and you imagine them using period-appropriate slurs. Picture your blorbo calling their squadmate a "sodomite".

Slurs don't always start with the bigots. "Tranny", "queer" are examples of some words that used to be identity terms in the communities they described before leaving the target audience and becoming derogatory (and needing to be reclaimed back).
I feel like the same process is currently happening with the word "genderfuck". I see an increasing number of posts that use it in a clearly derogatory context. So far these are all posts from other trans people, but the word is rapidly gaining a meaning of "the other", "trans in a bad way". I suspect the people who post it might say it does not count as a slur since some of the people they hate actually identify as genderfuck (and that is why I started this post with a reminder of some slurs' complex history as identities). But this is a process to watch out for.

Jonah Platt:
Libels are Antizionist racist hate. Slurs like “Israhell,” “Zio,” or “Zionazi” are racist hate. Defacing something Jewish with “Free Palestine” is racist hate. Talking over Jews and explaining to us who we are, what we are, what Zionism is — that is racist hate. Chanting for Israelis to be ethnically cleansed, for jihadist violence against Jews, or for the killing of Jewish men and women is racist hate. Refusing service — whether in an Uber, a restaurant, or a therapist’s office — simply because someone is Jewish or Israeli is racist hate. Covering your face so you can roam the streets and harass Jews at synagogues, hospitals, or campuses is racist hate. Spitting on, chasing, assaulting, or killing Jews or Israelis simply because they are Jews or Israelis is racist hate. Moral clarity exists when the door to doubt is slammed shut.
