Barty had never let himself be vulnerable around anyone. He could act like a cocky asshole, and, to be honest, he was one, but he was never vulnerable. Until Evan. 

“Bat, I swear, if you’re just trying to plan something…” Evan trailed off as he saw Barty. 

He was sitting on his bed in the dorm room, blessedly alone, though at the same time his thoughts weren’t leaving him alone. Until Evan. 

Barty tried for a smile. “Hey, Rosy.”

Evan sat down on the bed next to him. “What’s wrong? Your not fooling me, so don’t try.” 

Barty let his smile drop, letting himself be vulnerable with him. This was Evan after all. Barty felt as though someone had taken half of his soul and given it to Evan. He’d always felt that way. That’s how good friends they were. 

“My dad wrote a letter,” he said. 

Evan nodded in understanding, hovering a hand over his cheek. Barty leaned into it. Evan didn’t push Barty any further. 

They stayed in peaceful silence for a bit, and Barty was grateful that Evan was the one who’d found him like this. He was the only one he could be vulnerable with, and that was enough for now.
