move aside solas, the greater fade is Asharen's true love
I am only half joking (if you squint), but there is a sort of sadness to this that so much suffering had to happen in order for Asharen to eventually realise what her calling is and to be exposed to the magic that calls to her as her purpose.
It truly goes from Inquisition where she barely remembers, to then with the Nightmare Demon and her eventual first walks through parts of the fade that (as far as she knows) no one else has truly walked before. It's a dangerous place and it is mostly inhospitable, especially to those that visit it in a physical sense versus dreaming.
I'm fully going into heavy headcanon territory, canon do not even look at me but I think it's mostly dark, pure night. No stars, no clouds. The only thing you will be able to see in the sky is the purest shade of dark and then soft "shifts"? Like an aurora at times, when it is beautiful, but most often would likely look like threatening of tears to be honest. Most of them, depending on the area would not be perceivable at naked eye. Other sources of light are spirits, of course, there are far larger and stranger shapes than ones that folks in the waking world are used to.
Those in the waking world tend to bend themselves into a shape that the folks on the other side expect them. In a sort of self fulfilling prophecy. Here, they rarely interact with the waking world and their shapes are very fluid for lack of a better term. I think a lot of worm like spirits, large, massive jelly fish in the sky (I headcanon that Asharen makes friends with one of those and eventually the "animal symbol" that Asharen gets most recognised by would be those same glowing jelly fish)
Asharen learns how to map some of the paths. And it's not that it's always static like the waking world would be, but Asharen starts to identify patterns in how the fade can or possibly operates. This is not something she learns solely by herself but in the search of trying to quell the Well of Sorrows she read basically any and all literature that there was available on the fade (a lot from Nevarra and a little she could smuggle from Tevinter). This is not a currently very studied and followed topic.
I mentioned it before but yes, the notes that Asharen has on these things would have made her someone very valuable within Academia but again - it would need to be in a different life.
Asharen has one (1) small space that she has made it a safe haven, a place that she knows how to return to and find consistently. It was a place that a spirit friend guided her for and there was already a twisted orange tree growing. Asharen returns to it more rarely in Veilguard, for obvious reasons, but it is one of the few places that is not in the waking world that has this feeling of pure awe.
Asharen wants the Veil to remain as it was because the waking world deserves to improve and not be torn, but these spirits and these landscapes also adapted from the calamity that it was the Veil being raised. This too would be destroyed and Asharen just cannot bear that too.
There is a deeper topic which is only a tangent to this already very long post: from a very selfish standpoint, Asharen doesn't want the Veil to fall either because the Rift Magic she loves, the fade she loves, the waking world she loves and the people on both sides: they exist in this form and it would all be torn asunder (likely, from what she can gather) if Solas was to be successful. Yes, Solas sees as his purpose to fix his mistakes, but Asharen sees this as hers.
So now you see why she would be willing to make the sacrifice herself if she sees that Solas cannot be persuaded (there are other things to say about the atonement ending but I'll cut myself off here)
