“don’t worry, my parents with my crappy sister like 30 minutes ago. they didn’t try to make me go with since i don’t really want to be around her anyways,” kate shrugged as she climbed onto her bed. she sat down near the edge so her feet could dangle. “besides, you’re better company anyways.”

All her old friends were kind of crap and didn't necessarily like her vibe anymore. Plus hanging around Billy was nice and didn't really stress her out. She felt intrigued even moreso upon the question of if she wanted any weed or a drink. "Oh, absolutely. I'll take whatever you have on hand tonight." Kate wouldn't turn that down, definitely not now.

"it was working," she paused, setting down the empty cup. she'd been holding it for twenty minutes anyways. "but i don't know what i want to try next."

“yeah, sometimes it really bites people in the ass too,” she sighed. kate’s reality versus what others perceived it to be weren’t exactly the same. sometimes being around her mom was just too difficult, but she always tried to be the perfect daughter. today hadn’t been the best day for her. 

perhaps she had learned some habits that were by definition bad from her friend mallory, but at this moment she couldn’t care less. enough time had passed since the trial ended and here she stood, tying up laces on her skates. once those were tight enough she pressed the nearby remote to turn on the lights and music. after that she slid onto the skate floor and then began to both skate and dance to her hearts content. 

“you keep blabbering on about that and yet i never believe you, jeanette."

she wasn’t sure she felt any kind of anger towards jamie, at least not anymore. since they had been together and overall knew each other for a while, she saw no reason to not meet up with him. kate told her parents where she was going and texted mallory as well. a mere precaution if you will. once she arrived at the destination and noticed she did a small wave with her right hand, “hey.”
