I live in my MIL house and it is disgusting. The room I stay in used to be a garage, and it was converted into a giant bedroom by adding carpet, insulation, and better lighting. As soon as I go upstairs I'm hit with the smell of animal piss and shit, and it causes me to have an allergy fit—runny nose, sneezing, coughing, etc. I've had to clean religiously and vacuum as often as I can manage, because the flea problem is so out of hand. I wear slippers any time I have to be in the main part of the house, because even the floor is never cleaned properly and has been saturated with pet excrement over the years, not to mention the crumbs and dirt that's never swept or vacuumed.
I took a shower and cleared my sinuses, and as soon as I exited the bathroom the smell hit me and my nose went back to running. I cannot wait to be out of this wretched place.
