Trompe-l'œil
I dreamt up the idea for this “denim” shirt on a whim. I love wearing knits and I remembered how great this denim jersey fabric from Mood looked when I made my last project with it. When it came back in stock, I bought more of it.
I went to my usual knit bodice pattern.
The “pockets” and “placket” are just lines sewn with jeans thread. The decorative snaps are just that.
I didn’t want a seam down the back but I knew I would need some space to get my head over the garment so I installed an exposed zipper.
The bow comes on and off with a snap.
This is not the only trompe l’oeil project I finished recently. In issue #191, Threads Magazine ran a feature on using bias tape for the technique. I tried adding a faux “collar” and “placket” to this find of a Goodwill sweater.
Buttons added for effect.
I just love making things!
