let's (fund)raise hell | ares & skuld

On the contrary, it wasn't the fact that Skuld had successfully managed to wrangle him to a black-tie event in favor of what she had declared was good food that got Ares tense. Wearing a tux in favor of his usual attire hardly bothered him, not when Skuld was dressed in an equally formal dress that emphasized her svelte frame. He might have wrapped an arm around the back of her waist a little to proprietary, but that helped sell the bit that they were supposed to be a married couple. In fact, Ares had all the intentions of gloating about how low Skuld had to stoop just to get a taste of the cocktail shrimp.
No, it wasn't that. Neither were the simpering mortals that seemed to flock and drift from them like moths to a flame. Not for the first time did Ares thank his own innate abilities that made mere mortals wary and downright scared when getting too near him. Skuld did most of the talking, which allowed him to scope the room.
Instincts honed through millennia of battles and war was not something Ares ever ignored. And those instincts kicked up in warning the minute the two of them stepped foot inside the brightly lit room full of mortal frippery.
Skuld was reassuring him now, as if he needed calming his temper at the moment. With his arm still solidly around her waist, he accepts the kiss on his cheek, only to lean closer, as if initiating something more. Scandalized mortals were already looking away. Lips brushing Skuld's ear, he whispered.
"There's something fishy going on here. And it's not that shrimp you made dress a tux for."
