When Hugh gives Liepard back to Marry, instead of saying what actually happened, he does what he never could at her birthday party; he wraps the PokeBall with the ribbon he wanted to use originally. And when he reveals her, and the Pokemon ends up scratching him badly across his cheeks, and Marry gets extremely worried and begins to cry... Hugh laughs. He's crying in both happiness and sadness that he indeed got what he had wanted... But he didn't get it the way he wanted it to happen.

Marry is Hugh's little sister, and despite her brother's love for battling, she wants nothing to do with it, not wanting to endanger any more of her Pokemon after her Purrloin was taken, leaning more towards Pokemon Center work if anything. She actually still feels quite guilty about Hugh getting hurt badly during the battle against the two grunts, considering the shock of it was enough to nearly make him pass out. She doesn't want him to put himself in more danger, but she does harbor negative feelings towards Plasma as well.

His taste in music is all over the place, but to name a few Hugh likes any rock music that plays over the radio, some old music, and shamefully he enjoys some songs from movies. As for books, he has so many books on Pokemon and history in his room; the history is so he can keep up with school and possibly find information on Plasma, and the Pokemon books are so he can know as much as he can to take care of his Pokemon.
