Robert almost laughs out loud but refrains. Not being reckless? Then what else should he call it? He presses his lips together in irritation, taking a deep breath. Abraham is stubborn. He is stubborn and stupid and Robert certainly does not find the appeal in risking himself and his family for the sake of anything like this. He thinks of his father, he thinks of Sarah, he thinks of them hanging on a noose for simply associating with him if he were caught.
It's too risky. It's too thoughtless.
He wants to lean back when Abe leans closer to him, and he almost does, yet finds himself quite stuck where he is. Quite suddenly, he is all too aware of their proximity, and he clears his throat, shooting Abe a look and pressing a hand to his shoulder to ease him back just a little. "If this is not reckless, then what would you say it is?" he hisses, crossing his arms.
Abe was counting on the fact that he wouldn't turn him in, and maybe he's right, which irritates Robert even more. It would be easy. This is how it could all end with a payday to boot, but...something is holding him back. His conscious, maybe, or something else.
"And what makes you think that? I am not--I am not suitable for this sort of thing. You'll have to find someone else," he says sharply, gritting his teeth. "You can leave."
